anybody know the cost of painting parts of boat?

Hi. I have a 05 v-ride and I was just looking at it and decided it would look better with a little different paint scheme. Really all I want to do to it is paint the parts that are white black. Anybody have an idea of what this might cost? Thanks.

You might get away with paint on the deck but it wouldn't be a very good idea on the bottom. Either way, you're not going to get a smooth transition between the paint and gelcoat and paint will never be as durable as gelcoat. The only truly "legit" way to recolor a boat is new gelcoat. Even then, it's a little sketchy because rather than spraying gelcoat on a smooth mold and building the boat inside of it, you're spraying gel and you have to smooth it out mechanically. Anyway, I haven't priced a new gelcoat myself but I've heard figures like $4000.

If you really want to get rid of the white, you might be better off just selling your boat and ordering another one. That way, you'll have the black and red in the original gelcoat and it will be much more permanent and high-quality. I checked the Malibu site and it looks like you can get a v-ride with the exact scheme you are talking about.

Spot on LoneStar. A "painted" boat will always be a painted boat. It will reduce it's value significantly 'cos everyone will think it was done to hide something. Better to sell the boat "as is" as you suggest and invest the cost of the re-gel/repaint in getting the colour scheme you want. Someone will like the existing colour scheme. Personally I think it looks fine. The white adds contrast which will be lost if the boat is simply black and red.

Also, colour schemes are very fad-ish things. Paint it all black and in two years white will be the new black
