i just found out that i broke my pinky finger today. the doctor said that i was going to have to have some aort of pins put in it. Has this ever happened to any of you guys? How long were you out? I am really bummed, because i had the best ride of my life last weekend and almost landed my first raley. Any insight would help me get through this.

Man thanks for that. It's really a laughing matter that i will be missing the majority of my riding season Rolling Eyes . Anyone have any experiences with this or any other finger for that matter?

Why would You miss most your season for a pinky? You dont even need it to ride.. get a brace and hold the handle without your pinky...

03Belmont, Next time you ride, try to keep your "pinky " fingers sticking straight out. Bracing will not help this situation.
If what you're saying about the pinning is true, it'll be about 6-8 weeks before you can bend it.

and 6-8 wks is the majority of your season???? I feel absolutely no sympathy for you.
I had my ACL Reconstructed on April 13th and the soonest I could possibly ride is Labor day weekend....which happens to be the 1st weekend in September.

I've broken the bone inside my hand connected to the pinky three times on one hand and once on the other. It's the weakest bone in the body pretty much. Not that it has much to do with your injury...but you don't need your pinky to ride. Tape the hell out of it. Brace it. Pin it...whatever. Just ride. It's only your pinky.

That sucks man. I broke my left ring finger last year while beating the crap out of this guy that I caught punchin his women at a party last halloween. They put a straight splint on it that made it stick straight out. I couldn't bend it very far for about 6 weeks. After the swelling goes down you might be able to ride with it in the splint but it will be alot more difficult to hold on to your handle. Good luck.

yeah, i will probably give it a week or two, it's just too nice out to not ride. I go to the doc tommorrow to get it pinned. He should have more info for me tommorrow. I broke it halfway through my run on monday, and i was able to continue riding for another 15 miutes at least. I will probably take it eas for a little while cause i definitely dont want to re-break it. And by the way it is hard as $#@@ to type with a splint on your hand.

I broke my pinky riding my dirtbike. I couldn't grip anything for a couple of weeks. My doc said the most important thing was to keep stretching it once the bone has mended. I had to force it into a fist position to stretch the ligaments. You dont want your pinky to stick down when making a fist. When I hold it out straight it is jacked but doesn't bother me. I would need surgery to get it straight...its just a pinky and I still have 100% function of it.

I had a car accident when I was 16 (28 now) where a 4X4 post from a garage I hit @ 65 mph came through the windshield and severed my pinky almost completely off. I had 3 pins in it for like 6 weeks. Ever since then it has a permanent bend in it like I'm balling up my fist. They said it was from leaving the pins in too long, but who know's. I'm not worried since that same post stopped 4 inches from my head (thank you seat belts)..it's helped my golf game though...kind of funny, I'm the only one that can tell you it 4:30 on one hand
