There are a couple of factors that are going to affect your decision on what skate to buy such as price range, riding level, and knowing what you want out of the board.
Since you've never skated before, the dilemma you're prolly going through is whether or not to buy a basic entry level skate such as a Hyperlite Scape or a Cassette Flat deck, or maybe a LF faction board. If you wakeboard a lot and see yourself being on the water a lot, I would reccomend getting an intermediate board, because if you get hooked on the sport, youll be bummed that you spent money a board that you wont be able to full progress on. So I would list these as your main options. I would go with foam on whatever you get for now just for safety reasons although eventually you might want to skip to grip tape for maximum grip.
Basic Entry Board
-LF Faction with Foam - $89.99
-Hyperlite Scape- $99.99
-Cassette A-sym Flat- $99.99
Intermediate/Advanced Boards
-Cassette 4 Trac with Foam-$224.99
-LF Control Foam- $209.99
-HL Phriction- $149.99
More Advanced Boards (For Later)
-Integrity Lemons/Team Deck (with fins)- $300.00/$265.00
-Cassette Bi Level- $279.99
-HL Bylery/Catalyst- $239.99/$199.99
-LF Armada- $239.99
These are the average price youll see for these boards, you might see higher or lower depending on where you buy, hopefully your local boardshop has some of them or you can buy from boardstop.com , wakeside.com, buywake.com or integrity-wake.com (if integrity board)
Hopefully that helps a little bit, I'd reccomend using a friends board to get the feel of skating, then demo a board or two and see if theres something you like, if you're just planing on fooling around you can just purchase one of the cheaper models |

SMCboarder, Depends on what's important to you... Do you want to buy a new wakeskate for $100-$200 every 8-10 months when it cracks/breaks/delams? $300 every few years is a lot cheaper than $600 every few years. How much did you pay for your wakeboard setup?
Wakeskates are not top priority for wakeboard/waterski companies and will not be the best product. I have ridden most of these skates and will be the first to tell you that the ones made by hyperlite are terrible. Period. You can't fake concave with a foam cushion.
Nice post in the beginning BTW... _________________ ...island style... |

There are a couple of factors that are going to affect your decision on what skate to buy such as price range, riding level, durability, and knowing what you want out of the board. Another big deciding factor is where you want your money to go. It may not seem important to you now, but if you really want wakeskating to go in the right direction, we need to put the riders in power. You can help push the sport in the right direction by supporting rider owned companies.
Since you've never skated before, the dilemma you're prolly going through is whether or not to buy a basic entry level skate such as a Kampus K39 or a Cassette Flat deck. If you wakeboard a lot and see yourself being on the water a lot, you might go with an intermediate skate that you will be more able to fully progress on. So I would list these as your main options. I would go with grip tape for maximum grip and the feeling of being more on the skate, as opposed to foam which has worse grip and you feel like you are like a centimeter above the skate and you lose some board control that way.
Basic Entry Board
-Kampus K39 - $80.00
-Cassette A-sym Flat- $99.99
-Check Ebay for any flat decks not made by wakeboard companies-$20-$80
Intermediate/Advanced Boards
-Cassette 4 Trac with Foam-$224.99
-Kampus Wahlman - $198.00
-Integrity Team- $265.00
More Advanced Boards
-Integrity Lemons (with fins)- $300.00
-Cassette Bi Level- $279.99
These are the average price youll see for these boards, you might see higher or lower depending on where you buy, hopefully your local boardshop has some of them or you can buy from boardstop.com , wakeside.com, buywake.com or integrity-wake.com (if integrity board)

LOL....nice post Nick, I wasn't trying to say HL and LF are the way to go, I just tried to give the kid all his the options, I agree that rider owned is the way to go for all the reasons you named .
As for my setup, I paid around 600 for the setup, and I see your point of buying a high quality product that'll last many years. |

SMCboarder, Yea, I had an inspiration for that one
Krown77, The Integrity Team deck is a really good skate to take your riding to the next level. I wish I would've filmed how far this skate has taken me lately. I got a few new clips that I'm gonna put up here soon... _________________ ...island style... |

Tony Finn is a waterskiier and Jimmy Redmond is an incredible wakeboard shaper. I'm gonna go ahead and say that wakeskates are not their top priority. LF is definitely more legit than hyperlite though... but still, I could never be tricked into giving a dollar to Kent Sports again. _________________ ...island style... |

| Sorry to hijack the thread but I have one more argument, Tony Finn was one of the founding fathers of wakeboarding!!! Former surfer who invented the skurfer. Thats like calling George Washington a british politician. |

i still cant get over what happened between them and Cassette...
armada- derivative of compression molded butter board
control- derivative of cassette concave
where is the forward thinking here? and i wouldnt say that LF is any more "rider owned" than hype. paul obrien wakeboards, too.
edit: that being said, i still took out a LF control 41" to demo. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

as far as the Kharma. . dont. . .trust me I have on eits blah I switched to a Kampus swing 39 and litterally was better as soon as my feet touched it, not b/c the kampus is soooooo great, but b/c the Kharma is poorly designed, Brandon thomas whos rides it has to mod the fizzuck out of it _________________ TEAM PIRATE, AAAARRRGGGHHH YOU READY?
