Both speedo's are out still. I took the hose off at the pick-ups in the back of the boat and blew in them a few times. Each time I blew more water came out. It seemed like a lot of water was in the hoses. I'll bet a total of 5-10 table spoon fulls came out of the hoses. But, they did not work. What should I try next?

How far can you follow the hoses? If you can follow them all the way then you could try creating pressure there to verify that the gauges work. Do the gauges have power? Try gently blowing into the end of the tubes, no air should leak out.

Good Luck

I blew into the hoses and the speedo would go up to about 12 mph. I did not ever get them to go higher than that. After I stopped blowing and released my mouth from the hose a small amount of water would come out.

Well, you should reverse the procedure. Blow the tubes out from the speedo end. You may, just mmay have forced some debris into the speedo.

How old is the boat. If it's 10+ years old, it may be time to replace the speedo lines.

Try a bicycle pump to put pressure into the hoses from the speedo end.

You keep saying 'hoses' but refer to a single speedo - is this truly the setup? I've only seen single hose for single speedo.

A test you may want to try. Get a 25 feet of hose. Connect to the speedo. Then run the hose off the back of the boat, using temporary clips outside the hull, and connect to the pitot/wheel. This will tell you if you need new hoses, or if the speedo is whacked.

Thanks Leggester. I will try that. The boat is a 98 and I have dual speedo's, that's why I said hoses.

Use air from a compressor to blow them out, also use a small drill bit for the pitot to clean out debri.(be carefull not to ruin the pitot.

I just found this site. It explains it all to me. Check it out if you have, or may have speedo problems.

I'm having problems with my speedos also. Service guy at dealer suggested a compressor from both ends of tube.

Awesome pdf.

Also take some wire and clear the pitots out.
