Well we took the boat out for the first time this season the other day, it fired right up like a champ (350 mercruiser) (99 Centurion Elite). Anyways, when I throw it in reverse or forward, it goes in both directions, but only at idle speeds! When I try throw the stick down, nothing,

I opend it up and its pulling the throttle cable right, but its like no fuel is being injected... The engine wont even rev in idle? Any ideas? I took it over to the shop yesterday but I was just curious to see if anyone has experienced similar problems. Let me know. THanks

Possibly the linkage was disconnected during winterization? Will the boat rev in neutral?

Tranny oil?

What exactly did you check?

Need more info.

Doesnt look like the linkage cable, it is pulling it fine, it will not rev. SO i doubt its the tranny.

We only have 160 hours on the boat. Everything was working fine before we had it winterized.

From what you say, it sounds like there's something wrong with your throttle cable. Does your throttle have any effect at all? Since you said the throttle cable is fine, my guess would be whatever the throttle cable is attched to is broken. I doubt its the fuel injector because it still idles fine, and I doubt its the tranny because the same thing happens in neutral. I would check and see if everything in between the throttle and the fuel injector is working.

Yea I was checking some of it but I decided I would just drop it off at the shop and they can fix it under warrenty. Probably something really simple that was disconnected during the winterization, who knows. We will find out soon enough.

Yeah, if you didn't winterize it, they might have dicsonnected the throttle link to fog the motor? Did you get a list of the winterization schedule?

Or, the connection at the throttle lever may have broken or come undone. It's kind of a peg and halter arrangement if I remember correctly.

We had a winter/dewinterization done at once. They drained the block, and the works, changed fluids, etc. Then they told us this season when we wanted to use it just hookup the battery and go.

i would bet the throttle cable is disconnected either at the stick or on the injection/carburator. if you havent already taken it to the dealer it would be incredibly easy to determine if the throttle cable is disconnected. just look where the throttle cable goes to the injection/carburator and and have someone else move the stick. if the cable doesnt move then that's your problem.

We did that. When we move the stick the throttle cable does pull. So thats not the problem. Unless it's something past that.

what kind of fuel injection does it have? just wondering.
since it's not the throttle cable it would probably be best to take it to the dealer anyway.

I'm guessing that since you checked that the throttle cable pulls you also saw it moved a lever or whatever it is connected to at your engine. Maybe throttle postion sensor or lever is loose from whatever it connects to. I don't think it will be a big deal anyhow, let us know what it was...

Well, I had cheked the throttle cable all the way up to where it acctually creates a pull inside the engine compartment. I don't know that much about boat engines so I just decided it wasnt that, but. There is another lever futher up under the engine that had come loose and was disconnected. Almost sounds like my dealer did that on purpose when we got it winterized so we could bring the boat back for another 85 dollar service charge. I don't know.

They really charged you for that? They probably disconnected it when they winterized your boats.

No kidding! Sorry. I would have had a hard time paying for that. Unless someone else worked on the boat in the interim. Oh well, at least yo have a runing boat now.

Have fun.

Yea, I think it was a bunch of crap. Sounds exactly like they disconnected it when I had it winterized. I was going to protest the 85 dollar charge, but, they are involved in some "organized crime" I believe. They always have 100k cars in their lot, they sell scarabs.... malibus....centurions.... larsons, etc... They have some accent, and one of them has been indided on some stuff.. THey are cool guys but I just don't know how much I want to screw with them Smile

My dads business partner goes to car shows and says they are the kinda guys (my boat dealer) who come up to you at car shows and say "Don't bid on that car, I WANT, that car."

Hmm...maybe don't go back there, maybe next time you take it in they will decide your boat is THEIR boat...

Haha, nah I doubt that. They gave us a good trade in value on our old waverunners, and a great deal on our boat. They have million dollar scarab boats so I doubt my 40k centurion will interest them much. Plus it was probably filled with millions of dollars in coke when they got it so they made more than their profit off it Smile
