I just ordered a 2004 CWB Absolute Platinum 134 which comes with 2 sets of aluminum fins, .75" & 1.3". I have read that many riders like to ride this board without any fins at all.
I intend to have friends of all abilities to use this board and would like to know what others think about the various fin options for various levels of experience and aggressiveness. I would also like to know how lake conditions influence fin choice.
My primary lake is usually fairly calm but rarely glassy.
My own riding style during my first season last year reflected my snowboard and surfing background. I tended toward carving turns on one side or another of the wake and up and down surfing type movements in the wake. Although I am comfortable taking air and riding/landing fakie on a snowboard, I found this a bit intimidating on a wakeboard. I never managed to ride fakie on a wakeboard and crashed more wake to wake attempts than I landed. My goal for this summer is to get comfortable riding fakie and to get comfortable taking air with some basic trick thrown in.
A friend who owns a boat, and who I therefore want to get as excited as possible about wakeboarding, is extremely timid and has no snowboarding or surfing experience. She got on her feet about a dozen times last summer and went outside the wake on a few of those occasions. She never wanted the boat to go a normal wake boarding speed.
Another friend is fairly advanced, at least compared to the rest of us. He is comfortable in the air and throws flips and 360s with grabs.
And finally, I am sure we will have people trying to get up for the first time this summer.
So, I would greatly appreciate any advice those here might offer as to what fin choices might work best for riders of abilities ranging from never-ever to advanced on the 2004 CWB Absolute Platinum 134.
Thank you in advance for your insight! _________________ Check out my wakeboarding links page. |
