Ive been wakeboarding for two years now and I cant get the 180's down right. not the w2w ones i aint even tried those but the inside out and ollie 180s. last year i just worked on w2w jumps and not much on 180's. How should I practice to land them and hopefully soon the wake to wake ones. Also whats the right form for all of this stuff.

first, become very comfortable with riding switch. then 180s should be no problem!

Practice your ollies and riding switch and work on your ollie 180s first. They're really pretty easy if you can ollie and ride switch half decent, its just a matter of going for it. After you have them down try your toeside one wake 180s next. Toeside one wake 180s are pretty easy because the rope pretty much pulls you through the rotation, just let go of the rope with your lead hand when you leave the wake. After you get your toeside one wake 180s down the heelside one wake 180s are a little easier. Then after that, its just a matter of clearing the wake and doing them. Also, remember to keep the handle close to your lead hip when your leaving the wake. Good luck.

I was in the same situation last season. I first mastered surface 180s, ollies, and riding switch. Then try ollie 180s then do TS 1 wake 180s. (Dont worry they are easy and falls arent bad if u do screw up) Then I mastered w2w TS 180s. Now I am on HS w2w 180s which I will warn you, If you fall, IT CAN HURT, I bust my nuts when I fall usually and MAN it burns! Also you can faceplant if you catch an edge so you might want to wear wetsuit shorts for nut protection and a helmet for your head. They really arent hard but the falls can hurt.

ballywho, um think here. Life jacket is worn on your CHEST, on a faceplant you hurt your HEAD. A life jacket wont do anything. To protect your head use a helmet. Wink

For my ollie 180s, i got lots of practice by just doing simple surface 180s and riding switch for about 30 seconds and switching back. Then i practiced ollieing over certain objects, such as buoys until i cleared the whole thing. Then i just put those two things together, which is pretty much having your feet pressured to do a surface 180 and then i ollie and the pressure i had on my feet does the 180.

smlparksguy133, haha usually faceplants hurt my face.

But anyways back to 180's. I learned them last season and i thought hs fs 180s were the easiest. I got them wake to wake grabbed after a little while. ollie 180's didn't help me that much, just trying inside out and little 1 wake 180's helped me most. But hey, everyones different i guess... whatever works for you is what u should find out and do. Just mess around w/ stuff.

i think hee;side is easier. GO BIG when you leave the wake dont think about spinning just let go with your front hand and your board will come around. and when you land make sure you edge hard on your toeside.

180's are a one of the most difficult tricks for a begginer to learn. I had the same problem as you did, but now ive got em down easy. The thing you need to remember is not to do the work yourself. let the boats force give you a spin. yes thats right for once be a slacker. when you leave the wake just use one hand on the outside edge of the handle and pull. This will give you the spin you need to land. Also remember to keep your knees tight and not bent so you wont absorb your pop. Do this and youll get it down in under 3 tries.

numbfoot, the other guy said he could already jump the wake and all. i did tell him to pull hard because it would help him sooner. i told this guy not to pull hard because he is having problems with inside out and this way is easyer. there is more than one way to do a 180. diffrent stlyes for different situations Rolling Eyes

well i personally think its easyer to just let go with your back hand and let the board spin you around. thats how i learn it. but now i am learning 3's and to get into the habit of pulling the rope i pull hard on my 180's. both ways get you the same trick

But why pull hard and just do a 180? i mean if you pull it too hard then u have to really slow it down and control it so you don't over rotate... y not just pull hard on 3's????????

Practice by doing surface 180's and riding around switch for short periods of time. There isn't much to a one wake TS 180 try those first because you land facing the boat. Don't be scared they don't hurt at all because your only doing a one wake jump, just go out and do it you will get it eventually.

Yeah FS TS are deffinantly the easiest. Just take a short cut out, and dont really worry to much about trying to pop very high. All u want to do is just make sure u can get enough air to basically throw the board around toeside to land it switch. Use the rope to give u your stability when swinging the board around. Its pretty simple once u get it the first time. Just keep practicing u'll be going w2w 180's in no time

Once you have FS TS 180's down, is there a trick to landing the HS 180 (I land OK for a second and then fall backwards). Do youhave to land on the TS of the board?

fergie23, You can land flat and still ride away it's all in how you move the hips and how well you stay over the board...

You want to stay over the board when coming down and that means you need to leave the wake on balance...

If you do the let go with front hand and let the boat pull me around method you will wash out on your heels like you mention.

Try a few with two hands on the handle, get the POP, then snap the hip forward keeping both hands on the handle. When you land you should be over the board riding to the shore line. I think the two hand 180 method is one of the best for showing people it's all in the hips.....

J_DOGG, sounds like the 2-hand method will help keep you more balanced and over the board. I have only done the 1-hand method...so, with 2-hands do you do the normal HS jump, get the pop, then bring your back hip to the handle or do you push the handle to your back hip to bring you around?

Bring the hip to the handle... and keep it low off the wake!

When you start going BS you will need to manipulate the handle position a bit more. I think you have a way to go before you need to worry about that.

I just started wakeboarding about a 2 months ago, so I am by no means an expert. But I have been doing something that is kinda wimping out. I have been having a really hard time with my ts wake jumps, so I just started doing a surface 180 outside the wake and hitting the wake switch HS and doing half-cabs. These are pretty easy, because you get to launch HS and land regular foot. And it's still a 180. This might help you out.

Yeah I find it easier. I thinks its probably due to the fact that I have a snowboarding background. Riding regular and switch isn't that hard, but getting pulled by a rope is a little new for me.
