How can I build a sound system for $2000 ?

I just bought a 2004 Tige 22v with no stereo system. Now after a few months of boarding im going crazy with no tunes.

Here is the problem. As all of you are aware, when discussing a system with a dealer or installer they are always going to talk up thier components. All I here is how great these tower speakers are or whatever.

My Goals - To hear the music when riding - NOT play music for the cove

My thoughts: A 10 inch sub mounted under the driver side with a box built around it. Deafcon 2 speakers, and 4 4 and 1/2 inch dual mode speakers for the boat.
Amplifiers....I have no idea. I get a different story about amplifiers from everybody. Can a 5 channel kicker amp cut it?

What products would you guys suggest or have in you boats?

Please HELP. Can I do this for $2000? Thanks in advance!

if you want to hear it while boarding and not in the cove then spend more money on the tower speakers and not the subs. i personally have had bad luck with kicker amps but i tend to run my amps a little hard i woud stay away from a 5 chanel buy a monoblock amp for your subs and then a multi channel for your speakers this that will be the best way to go. just watch ebay. it is definately doable for under 2 g we did my friends 99 205 v with 2 12s 6 6x9s and 4 6.5 components and amps for about 1500 not counting time to install and wires ect.. good luck man and watch ebay but high end stuff that is like 2 years old and you will be golden will sound good and nobody can tell casue most of it is cover by grills anyways. Stereo stores just mark up the new stuff so much that if you are a virgin before going there your not one when you come out. Laughing

My system was relatively cheap. It is by no means the greatest, but it is pretty loud and I can definitely hear the music while boarding. Not as well as if I had NVS speakers, but much cheaper. My system is as follows:

Pioneer 3500 head unit (used, off ebay) $100 delivered
Audiobahn a8002t 2-ch amp to run Evids (new, off ebay) $160 delivered
Evid 6.2 tower speakers (new, off ebay) $282 delivered
Raul's clamps for Evids $56 delivered
Pioneer 10" sub in box (used, off ebay) $47 delivered
Bazooka 500W amp to run sub (new, off ebay) @$65 delivered
Sony Xplod 6.5" interior speakers -- one pair only $50
Misc wiring/hardware $40

Total: $800

It cranks loud enough to hurt my ears in the boat, without any audible distortion. For the money, I think the Evids are hard to beat. On my previous boat, I had a tower box with 4 6x9's that you could sort of hear while riding, but nothing like the Evids.

I've got a Kicker 700.5 in my boat. It is pushing 4 6.5" Polk tower speakers, 4 6.5" Kenwood interior speakers, a 12" Fosgate HE2 under drivers seat and a 10" HE2 in the Locker. I ran the Other 2 6.5" Kenwood interiors off of the radio and I couldn't be happier with the setup.

Basically for ridding I turn the bass knob down and crank the volume up and you can hear it at 70ft back with no problem. Then when just cruising or sitting, turn the bass knob up and the boat absolutely pounds, it sounds better than most car systems I've heard. I get comments on it every weekend.

It has been my experience that if you can hear the music while riding then, pretty much everyone around you can hear it as well.

for $2,000 -- yeah. I just put $1,700 into mine and was able to do 2 amps, 6 speakers (incl. two tower), 10 inch sub (w/enclosure), capacitor, head unit, all the wiring cables, patch cords....I put Sony stuff in -- so from a quality standpoint (it is lacking) - -but it's ok for me.

Who is doing your install? Not sure if you are doing it..?I had a buddy of mine do it -- so he get's free rides and beer for a while -- it took him the better part of 5 hours.

Tige, if you have the ability to install it yourself, I would definately buy online! The prices I see online are much lower than most shops, usually there is approx anywhere from 50% and 200% markup on audio. If you can do it yourself you will save a ton of money between labor and cost of product. Make sure you buy the product from a reputable online dealer, there are also a lot of knock off amplifiers etc. on ebay and places that try to pawn off knock offs as the real deal so do your research. I would personally suggest getting the amp and head unit online and looking at NVS for tower speakers, then spend rest on interior music since your #1 goal is to hear while riding, you can get cheaper 4.5's online that can do the job. Remember to run a setup that you can hear while riding will require a good amount of wattage going to those tower speakers.

EVid 6.2 speakers are a great sounding speaker for riding...especially for the price.
