Hey All,

My starter has been giving me the "click" sometimes when trying to start and really seemed to just be "tired" although the starter was rebuilt at the end of last season (with new solenoid). I had taken the solenoid apart and filed down all the areas where arcing has occured.

The culprit - the wire from the key switch to the "S" terminal on the solenoid was the cause of my solenoid's "clicking" sound. Seems if this wire is not making PERFECT contact at both ends, delivering the correct amount of current, you'll get the "click of death". My starter now seems to run like a champ after being quite persnicity, slow starting, often making the clicking noise. Very Happy Very Happy

So if you're having some starter difficulties, this may be a good wire to rerun. Mine "looked good" at both ends, but apparently the connection was just not quite positive enough.

I had cleaned all the mating metal surfaces to achieve a good ground (apparently this is overlooked quite often).

Wes

Thanks for the extra point interest.

On the same topic it's interesting that the first thing I was ever taught to check when my starter did that was the battery for the same reason. If the battery doesn't load test properly you will get the same symptoms.

Good advice!
