I've been wanting this camera for a while now, finally pulled the trigger the other day. Decent megapixels (3.2) and awesome optical zoom (10X). Got an 80X 1GB CF card with it as well...can store 600 of 2048x1536 at SuperFine, and already been messing with the continous shooting. Planning to do a lot of sequence shots this year, I'll post them as soon as I get on the water! Thinking about getting a tripod for it as well, but one step at a time.

Anyone else have experience with using this camera? Im still trying to dial in good settings for lighting, etc just wondering if anyone else has figured it out or maybe could offer me a few tips/tricks? Thanks.

Mariognarly, Nor*Cal just got that exact camera a week or so ago, hopefully you and him can help each other out to better pics!

Would that camera be comparable to the other one posted? It has 6 megapixels but only 3x zoom. Do you think 3x is adequate for wakeboarding pics? I do realize canon is the better brand out of the two.

For wakeboarding you'd most likely want about 8x optical zoom. 3x really wouldn't do that much for wakeboarding shots.

scooter, the camera posted has an 10X OPTICAL zoom. The camera you linked has an 8X DIGITAL zoom. Big difference in quality of zoomed pictures there.

If you don't mind me asking what would I expect to pay for that set up? Thanks

I paid $350 US for the camera and $80 for the 1 GB memory card.

scooter, how big of a picture do you want? Going up to 5 megapixels just gives you a larger picture.

Max Res on the camera you posted is 2608 x 1952

Max Res on a Canon S1 IS is 2048 x 1536

I don't plan on blowing my pics up to poster size so that's good enough for me. Not to mention all the features packed into the camera.

Just to make a note: I have used 2048 x 1536 to make approximately an 11x17 pic/poster.

Damn near no noticeable distortion.

Mariognarly,

I would shoot it set on TV mode at at least a 1000th of a second and then watch your histogram. You want your data as far to the right as possible with out blowing out your whites. DOF isn't an issue normally on a small sensor like that so I wouldn't worry too much about your f stop. The hardest part is to learn the timing on the shutter delay so you can capture the monent, so to speak, that you want.

chavez,

I just had a 20 X 30 print done from a pic Buffalow shot of Chris with his 1DmkII / 70-200f2.8L IS cropped down to about 6 megapixels. It is absolutely f**king unbelievable! I can look at it from 6" away and the only pixelation I can see is a tiny bit on the Hyperlite script on the bottom of his board! It just keeps getting better and better.

Nor*Cal, Thanks man, I've looked around and havent seen too many people with this camera. Got me kind of wondering if Canon was pulling the wool over my eyes, but I love it so far. It has great features and should treat me very well. Its good to hear someone else supporting this camera!

RD, Okay, I'll definitly give that a shot, thanks for the tip! Should be hitting the water sometime soon, I'll let you know when the first batch comes in!
