Does anyone have any tips for this trick? I'm not sure when to begin reaching for the handle with my back hand...is later better??? I almost land switch, but the handle is in my front hand...so when I land, I'm sort of tangled up and ending with a face plant..
Muchas Gracias!! _________________ Don't let go of the rope |

You do want to really wait on the handle pass. It's easier with a tantrum that you have a nice straight up pop on, instead of a big one out in the flats (do that once you got the move ). Late means like after you've spotted the landing. When I was learning it, I tried the handle pass too early (about 2/3 through the tantrum), my hand I was passing to slipped off and I punched myself in the mouth, it was awesome.
But yeah, a good thing to do before trying it again is some very late hs fs 180s, pop up real high on the 180s and pass the handle real late. That should prepare you for what you'll do at the end of the tantrum. |

Thanks Toothpick...I'll work on the late 180's and I;ll also work on spotting the landing then passing the handle on the tramp too. To get a poppier tanty, (mine are usually out in the flats), would you suggest bending my knees more, or waiting to trip flip? Or would you think more up then back??? Thanks again! _________________ Don't let go of the rope |

| Definately get on a tramp and try them on it - it will help out tremendously with this trick for timing and air awareness. |

I had that same problem of doing tantrums out in the flats, they just seem easier that way. I didn't really learn how to do a poppy wake to wake tantrum until I was working on a whirlybird. It's a weird mental block to get over, but if you do it right, you'll be surprised at how little speed you need to do a nice easy tantrum.
Cut in with a lighter edge than your usual tantrum. When at the wake, really think of popping straight up (like you said, more up than back). You know how on a trampoline if you start your back flip early, you launch yourself backwards, and if you do it straight up it's still easy to just tuck your knees and make the rotation? Well, that's how you should think of doing it on the water - the straight up version.
Another thing I like to think of when doing straight up tantrums is that I want the upward thrust of the wake to go through my hips, not through my feet. That gets you to wait (while standing tall) to feel the upward force in your hips (just like when you jump on a tramp), then do the flip.
I'm wakeboarding tomorrow for the first time in a couple weeks. It's been a while since I've done a tantrum to fakie, I'll get some done and see if I notice anything else. Good luck! |

Thanks Toothpick! I did a bunch on the tramp last night and have a new, more confident feel to the trick now. Have a blast on the h20! I hope you have buttery, flat, glassy water!!!

Good to hear! I did go today, had the buttery, flat, glassy water, but I've got a bum ankle, argghhh!!! Too much basketball as of late. I didn't have the flexibility to do much at all, so I didn't try any. Give me a week of rest, I'll be back. Keep us posted on how your attempts go. |
