I've heard of fishermen giving riders the bird and whatnot, but it got a bit out of hand today....

We were just cruizing down the delta wakeskating behind the jetskis and a fishermen cast his line out right at me, it wrapped around me and caught my shorts....It took me a few seconds to realize what was going on, I let go and the guy starts reeling it in! Luckily he caught my shorts and not my skin or it could have been brutal.

I can understand flipping the bird, yelling at us, asking us to go somewheer else, but to cast a line right into a boarder! What the hell was he thinking?

How close did you get to his boat?

My dad was hooked when he was 21 for getting too close to a fisherman while waterskiing. The behavior is not new.

Krown77, you might. A delta is the mouth of a river where it flows into an ocean, sea, or lake, building outwards (as a deltaic deposit) from sediment carried by the river and deposited as the water current is dissipated. Deltaic deposits of larger, heavily-laden rivers are characterised by the river channel dividing into multiple streams (distributaries), these divide and come together again to form a maze of active and inactive channels.

The most famous delta is that of the Nile River, and it is this delta from which the term is derived, because the Nile delta has a very characteristic triangular shape, like the (upper-case) Greek letter delta (Δ). Other rivers with notable deltas include the Ganges/Brahmaputra combination (this delta spans most of Bangladesh), the Niger, the Amazon, the Mississippi, the Sacramento-San Joaquin, the Rhine, the Rhône, the Danube, the Ebro, the Mekong, the Irrawaddy, the Krishna-Godavari, and the Cauvery. Credit to Wikpedia for the lesson...

yes its not new and those bastards do that stuff around here in Texas as well..they ahve becaome worse to deal with then tubers and jet skiers...! Neutral

Wow, you guys hate fisherman don't you? I go fishing and even when there's wakeboarders I catch fish. This guy was just an a$$hle. Not all us fisherman are like that, he must just not be any good and didn't want to say that being skunked was his fault. Personally I would have done a big ts carve out and splash him on the way in. Wink

Don't make generalizations (that was an attempt at the synonym of stereotype Laughing ) about fisherman.

Is there a 100ft rule where you board? I'm on your side here, because first off, it's assault what he did to you. But on the other hand...if you were over 100 feet from him, well that's a pretty tough cast to make.

Damn Jen that blows. Hope you're ok.

I would have let the f*cker reel me in. Then I'd show him exactly where he can - Wait, I can't think of a way of saying this without homosexual overtones... Jam his fishing-rod? Shove his tackle?

Whatever, I'd go apesh*t.

We are getting ready to battle the "FISHERMEN" at our lake over wake making! If it isn't one thing it is another. When one of my girls gets hooked on a hook they leave in my dock.......................!!! Evil or Very Mad

We were just at the Delta for the weekend, I don't usually ride there, so its not some one going fued or anything...

He wasn't even in a boat, just casting from shore, we were riding in the middle too.

The driver just yelled at him asking what the helll he was thinking, but I dont think the 15 ys old was too much of a threat to the old man...We just drove off, we had to go tow our jet ski that died in...wanted to go back and yell at him, but didnt want to get back in his casting range...I guess he tried to hit one of the other guys earlier before I got there.

It just seems like a really stupid thing too do...I could imagine getting hooked while being pulled away at 20mph...ouch

Sorry to hear that. It's happened to me....line wrapped around me a few times, so it is not unique to West coast. I chased my guy down and called the law but they made a clean get away before the law could get there. And yeah I think it is assault...if the line wraps around your neck it could be lethal. If they are going to throw stuff at you, they have definately crossed the line and deserve the law or a good whipping.

Thats pretty bad! Good thing you didn't get hurt.

There was a thing that happend down here a few months back, I just heard It from a guy I ride with. Fisherman were throwing beer cans and huge rocks off the bridge and from fishing boats at the rider and tow boat, and after a call to the cops, the cops told the boarders to leave, and he stood up for the fisherman.

...What is this world coming to? Laughing

On another note, 2 weekends ago we were surfing with about 2000+ pounds of ballast + people, and we got the finger a record 3 times, from 3 different fisherman. We were lucky they didn't come do some stupid stuff, because some of these Redneck Texans get pretty rowdy and worked up on little things.

I got a water bottle thrown at me last year. not very cool.

As much as I would want to bash him, I would just call the cops and make a report.

Well, glad you're OK. Hopefully, you weren't being a$$es and deserved it.

Also, casting at you is assault. Next time try pressing charges.

Even if you are being a$$es on the lake, I do not think you ever DESERVE getting a fishing line with trebble hooks thrown at you.

Yes there are times when wakeboarders can do better by being more respectful of others wanting to use lakes in a different way, but do not think justifies throwing stuff while a boarder goes 22MPH+.

We've been cast at quite a few times. We're not allowed to go faster than 10MPH from sunset until 8:00am and at 8:00 when we start running up and down the bay they tend to get pissy.

Usually we're far enough away, but sometimes we get a little closer than the law allows and they cast at us. They've come close but when that happens, I suggest a slow plow around them while yelling or just a nice doubleup right around them. The waves in the middle of that circle will have most fishermen grabbing on for dear life!

Also, we've been stopped before for the boarding being too close "The boarder is just an extension of the boat" so if you need to be 150 feet away, so does the person on the end of the line!

Be careful about going after people, even if they are dumbasses. Best thing to do is tell DNR or the cops or something. You would probobly get a ticket for being within 100ft but he would get busted for assault.

If you think no-wake buoy's and no ski areas are bad now wait untill the local newspaper says "YOUNG Wakeboarders Assault OLD Fisherman". Every pig on the lake would be out to get anyone with a tower on their boat. On my lake we're already getting DNR boats following us around and stopping us for "SAFETY CHECKS". Pretty soon all coves will be off limits and we'll be in the center of lakes with the cruisers Shocked and houseboats. Or you would have to have your own private lake.

Personally I've never had anything like that happen to me (YET) but we usually have a full crew onboard and I think that helps.

kmagnuss, it is damn near impossible to be 100 feet from another boat on the delta - most channels are only about 150-200 feet wide.

People always wonder why I have a 12 pound test spinning rod castmaster combo in the board racks. Well people here's my reasoning exemplified. I just cast one back at the MFer. No hooks here just a few ounces of lead weight. SMACK!!! upside the dome!!! Twisted Evil

If that ever happened to me, I'd switch to the wakeskate then next lap on the slough I'd cut out towards the fisherman then just before the boat I'd launch into Mr. Caster for a flying tackle. Hopfully they'd never see me coming.
