They look good, let us know how they sound if you get them. Check out www.diyTower.com for some bracket ideas if you will be mounting them to a tower.

I will let you know how they sound. The site had some reviews, most by people who put them on wakeboard towers. They all said they sounded great the only complaint was that you needed to silicone the grills in place.
I have never prices speakers for a tower before; and I have to be honest these companies are ripping people off. For what these places charge for one set of 6.5" componets (in a tube) I could have my local stereo shop install a whole system.

too bad they are 8ohm, good luck finding an amp rated at more then 10watts at 8ohm, i know ive only found 4ohm stable amps which put out 35watts, but when run at 8ohm they only put out like 10 -15watts, and u probly wont hear that on the water... let us know though... also what amp u gonna use to power them??
thanks

8-ohms shouldn't be a big deal. Just don't waste your money on a 2-ohm stable amp. Buy a cheap one with a high power rating. The 4-ohm rating will be no more than double the 8-ohm rating.
You can easily pick up an amp that will do 150W x 2 into 8-ohms for under $150.

| I got an amp that is 240 watts (2x120@4ohm rms) and I am either going to bridge it and run the speakers mono, or put a 4 ohm resistor in that will bump up the power output. I just wonder how big they are, it has a 8" woofer so the box will be pretty big.

If you ran 4 of them to a 2-ch amp (2 per side), would'nt that give you stereo sound at 4 ohms?
Thats still only $200 for 2 sets of speakers. I think 2 sets would look sweet on the tower. If you went to www.chasisshop.com you could pick up 4 billet bar mounts for another $100. Thats still 1/2 the price of most tower speakers. Sounds like a great deal if they sound good! You could probably pick up a decent amp (200 x 2 @ 4ohms rms) for under $200 on ebay.

Im buying 4 speakers sim to these. Two clamps from the chassisshop. Mount the speakers to a steel flat bar (powdercoated). Clamps on top of the bar, Speakers below.
P.S. if all go's right I will pay around 100.00 for the whole set up!!!!
I will post pics. and costs when complete!

| I dont think at the lake I will notice that its not in stereo. I also dont know the dimentions of the speakers I ordered. I think they are about 20"wx10"H so I dont know if 2 would fit on the tower, but I will look into it when I get them.

Hmm...anyone know what an amp's resistance rating really means?

Millertyme, That's a great idea! Where are you getting the flat bar? If you did it like that then you could face 2 speakers forward easily for people in the bow.

I used to use these speakers - they sound decent but they are very heavy. Originally I was using the stock speaker mounts connected to RynoGear quick release brackets, but then one of the stock mounts broke and the speaker almost landed on someone's head. There are three problems with these speakers - the weight, 8-ohm load (as people have mentioned you can bridge your amp and run the speakers in mono for a 4-ohm load), and they blow easily.
My friends turned the stereo up way too much during a quiet part of a song and when it got loud the tweeters blew. Two other people I know had the same problem. I ended up replacing the tweeters with Polk Audio 4 1/4" 2-way speakers that will handle 100watts. They now sound really good but then I'm not using on my boat anymore - I bought the RynoGear canister speakers instead. They are lighter and louder, and sound better too.

Here's a pic of the modified speaker - I didn't know you needed to silicon the grills in place so I lost both of them. The water bottle is for a size reference. You can see the repaired stock mounting bracket and the bottom of the RynoGear quick release bracket.

Im a project manager for a steel fabriction company. So the steel is free for me. Even if you bought it. The steel bar would be about 5 bucks.

I've heard them in a friends boat - limit the bass to the West Marine speakers and they are pretty good, but don't overpower them - as said before they're fragile in the tweeters. Also, as mentioned, they're quite heavy. I could sort of hear them out back when riding, but they certainly made listening in the boat plenty loud. For the cost ($99), that's a great way to get started in the tower speaker arena. I thought these were on clearance a while back (last year?).

| For as cheap as they are I could replace all the speakers with something better and still be allot less than what the tubes that some of these companies are selling. Just for some fun I am thinking about building some fiberglass tubes with a set of 6.5" components in them.
