|

EDIT: We decided on, and purchased the X-2. We'll be picking it up this weekend. Awesome.
Ok, so i'm not the one w/ the dough in my family. Being that i'm in college and don't have much income, I can't really complain when my dad is deciding which mastercraft to purchase. He's set on a MasterCraft, so I decided to get alittle help in comparison on the models he's looking at.
Here's what he thinks:
A good amount of seating, he likes the wrap around seating, hence the 3 models. We have 6 people in my family, and plenty of friends.
A boat that we can do EVERYTHING with. Ski, Wakeboard, Tube...joy ride.
He thinks a Ballast system will inflate the price too much, and claims "we'll never use it". Not sure where that argument comes from when he has 3 sons b/t the ages of 14-21. I guess he doesn't see the need for a big wake.
He says he'd rather buy an after market tower and add it on to a Maristar (because that will save him money??)
Money is an issue, because he's cheap...but not overly cheap. He's looking for the best value for what we need. Any suggestions? (I'm leaning towards the X-10)
EDIT:
Changed our minds, X-2 better deal.... specs at bottom of thread....fair?

X-2 could be too small for ya'll, incredible boat. X-10 is the exact same boat as the Maristar, just wakeboard model. More seating/more comfortbale fit. good wakes on both. Sorry kinda short, but gotta run, maybe make it back here for some more info.
Try a search at the top of the page as well, you can find a bunch of good info on each boat that way. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

He will wish he had the ballast system when he is stepping on all the sacs his 3 sons have on the floor.....
Of course this is all personal opinion.....
6 people is perfect for the X-2....anymore and I think you will start feeling cramped. Like savage said, the Maristar 210 and X-10 are the same boat....just different wrapping. I don't think you can go wrong with either boat, but one has arguably the best wake in the Mastercraft line....if you feel it has adequate space, I think the choice is clear.
Oh yea, your dad must not be too frugal, he is shopping for a Mastercraft. Maybe if he decides the X-2 is too small, he will bump his budget and get the X-Star, which would provide the extra needed space.
Best of luck either way and enjoy your Summer. |

If you go with the X-10/Maristar you need the ballast for sure. unweighted it's not a great wake for boarding at all. KGB and 500 pounds in the bow and it's throws a pretty nice wake and you still have tons of storage.
6 people in the X-2 is all I'd want in that boat. 6 people is all I'd ever really want in any boat though. Any more and you never get to ride and your always tripping over everyone. |

Oh...and remind him that an aftermarket tower is just that. I think if you are going to get a tower, you go with the factory Zeroflex. I love the rotating racks. It is a GREAT tower. By the time he gets aftermarket, gets it installed, picks up racks...ect....he is going to be close to the cost of the factory tower. Well, truthfully I don't know what MC sells the Zeroflex for....so that may not be correct. That said, I don't think you will/can overpay for the Zeroflex.
To sum that up....of everything you said...the one thing that I would HIGHLY suggest is that he stays with a factory tower. |

Either boat.
Factory Tower.
Ballast is MANDATORY - He WILL regret it come resale time if he cheaps out on that now. _________________

Well, we went and test drove some boats today.
A 2005 X-2, a 2004 X-10, and a 2005 X-45 (holy crap its huge)...
We're pretty much deciding between the X-2 and the X-10, with the possibility of getting one custom built. We didn't even drive the Maristar (my brothers and I hounded him about the ballast tanks, and he gave).
Of course, I want the boat for next weekend, and he wants to make sure he knows EXACTLY what he wants before he drops 50 grand on a boat. Can't say I blame him....hopefully he hurries with his decision. |

We've decided on the 2004 X-10, We haven't signed on it, and there is still some negotiating to do, but hopefully it will officially be ours soon... I don't think we're making a mistake.
Good choice? |

Well, the 2004 X-10 is still a possibility...we may (and most likely are) going with a 2005 X-2.
The X-2 has the new JL Audio system, the 350 MCX instead of the 310 hp RPI...an installed Bimini top, transom remote, and drivers remote for the CD player....and they're only asking a grand more.
Same color scheme as the MasterCraft picture here: |

That's a much better boat, and definitely worth much more than the $1k difference in cost. I love the colors! _________________ http://www.downsideupvideo.com

Go with the X-2 for a grand more for sure.
That's the same boat as the brochure I believe. Looks great

That X-2 is sick. Definitely worth the 1k more to have the best wake in MC's lineup. _________________

A year newer, upgraded engine, upgraded stereo and a bimini for a grand...that is like stealing. Oh yea...added bonus, you get swivel racks.
Unless the space in the X-2 just doesn't work...I would see NO reason the X-10 is still even in the picture.
Anyway....bet you're excited....

Ok, some more opinions...
The dealership is quoting us 51,700$ for the X-2....
-MCX 350, Bimini Top, Driver & Transom Remote, JL Audio w/ 10" Sub, Tower Speakers (150 W each w/ Amp)....only a single axle trailer...but we have a lake house, and we wouldn't be towing it much. Comes w/ a Tower Mooring cover....I don't know if i can think of any other amenities...but its pretty loaded....
Fair price? |

Is that price out the door?
Ballast? Perfect Pass? Heater? Shower(worthless, though the girls do shave their legs with it while camping)?
Price is very regional.... You may benefit from putting where you are from in your profile. I read OTD prices all the time on here that someone could not come close to here in SLC.
You also may consider PMing some X-2 owners about pricing. Owners tend to be more specific with pricing when talking outside the limelight of the message board. |

That's out the door...everything I've listed, and much more:
Anodized aluminum ski pylon:
Double KGB: (Keel-line Gravity Ballast System), internal with electric pumps
MasterView bolster driver’s seat
Parabolic tracking fins
Windshield-mounted convex mirror: adjustable, oversized, with bracket, removable
ZeroFlex Flyer tower:
(factory-installed) with built-in pivoting boardracks for 4 boards and swivel light
Bow filler cushion:
(Gray Light, Sand)
Clarion AM/FM CD stereo system:
(Sirius capability) with 4 JL Audio marine speakers with speaker separates
Stereo remote
Depth finder
Perfect Pass Wakeboard Edition
I'm not sure if and how TT&L apply to boats, but I'm sure I'll find out.
I'm from Louisiana. And this price is a good deal lower than the MSRP, which is expected.
Thanks again. |

At the Utah Boat Show....notice the boat was sold.... That was the second day of the boat show, so my guess is that it went pretty close to that listed price. Anyway, for whatever that is worth. |

I know this is off topic but I definitely like the Mastercrafts without the tribal graphics and just the plain MASTERCRAFT on this side. It looks nice and cleaner and not as cheap. Off topic but whatever.

Btcarro.... I assume the issue you will run into is selling areas. That is why prices are so regional. Dealers are not allowed to sell out of their area. |

Wow, I paid less than that in cdn dollars. Either my dealer took a loss, or your dealers down there are making way too much on the boats. Mine wasn't quite that loaded but still.... |

Wow bambamski....if my conversion system .8 x $1 is correct, you are talking 43ish.... During my boat search, I could not get a leftover stripped X-2(no stereo, PP or covers) for that. I talked my arse off and was ready to buy(note the boat in my driveway), it was a leftover boat and they were not budging.
I also was in love with a VLX up in Burley, Idaho and talked for some time with the dealer there.....but as soon as he heard I was from SLC.... "I would be happy to put you in contact with the dealer in your area.....
No arguement here oshensurfer.... |

EJ, I locked in at a pretty low rate so it was more in the range of 45ish U.S. I also bought the boat in October (prepaid) but didn't take possesion until April.
That's why I can't believe some of these guys that are trying to sell 2002-2004 used X-stars/X-2's in the 40's. A brand new one for mid 50's? The dealers down there must be making 15-20k per boat on them then. I don't know if my dealer is blowing them out into the market to get more MC's on the water up here or not. They had about 60 new boats on their lot though so they must be going for big volume small markup or something. At the boat show the V-ride was more than the X-2. That made me laugh. |

It's outright collusion. I just don't know why no one has done anything about this. Legally, I mean. There must be a loophole or something. I can totally see why this is done at the wholesale level on products, but when it comes to public sale, it seems like it should be illegal.
Sorry for taking it off topic.
Jbienven, I think that's a decent price, at least around here. I would give them a final offer for a couple grand lower with your check book out and see where it goes. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

Family address would be fine I suspect.... In fact, I find it hard to believe that if you walked into a dealer and bought off the floor, anything other than payment would be discussed. You could always say that you are registering in another state because that is where the majority of your boating is.
It would be interesting to see if a dealer would actually turn down a sale with someone in his/her showroom due to area restrictions. |
