No Stretch Wakeboard line used for water skiing to?

This may be a dumb question but aren't the "Accurate Line" ropes that most people use for salom sking no stretch? Or is there a different quality?

ski ropes are cheap. I wouldn't use a wakeboard rope for skiing especially if you're sloloming. The reason being is that you sink really fast on those skis so if you take a large cut to the side you're going to lose tension and without the slack in the rope it's going to yank you. For the tournament skiers you need the stretch to reach the bouys but I'm assuming that's not what you're talking about.

If you're just going to be going with 2 skis you could give it a try. You don't sink as fast and don't put as much stress on the line. I still think for $15 you should get a cheap ski rope Wink

I grew up salom sking and didn't start wakeboarding until a couple of years ago and I just assumed that a rope like this:

(I can't find the Accurate brand one I use) was a no stretch rope. Is that incorrect?

that rope has stretch. it is in the water ski section so it can't be and it is too thick to be no stretch.

yeah you dont need a different rope for skiing unless you're a hardcore wakeboarder and need to keep your wakeboarding rope only for wakeboarding...

This is kind of random, but when waterskiers have used my wakeboard rope, they get tired really fast. Less give= harder wear and tear on the body?

The pull coming out of a tight turn on a slalom ski is brutal enough on the body of the skier (back & arms). Not having any stretch in the rope would just make it worse. This is why they stretch.

ty540 - Probably why they got really tired was because of the no stretch (see comment above) Wakeboarders don't pull near as hard as skiers, so don't need the forgiveness, and also, the "no-stretch" of the wakeboard line allows for consistent pop off the wake.

I wouldn't say a ski rope is like a catapault because it doesn't stretch that much. By the time a skier hits the wake, that ski rope is probably pulled tighter than any wakeboard rope could be. (Which is why they can be VERY dangerous to people in the boat). When skiing into very short line lengths, good skiers will sometimes pop the handle, and when this happens, the handle will either end up in the boat or in front of it. (I've actually seen a handle crack a windshield, take a chunk out of a rubrail, and nearly break a passengers foot). Be glad wakeboarders don't have to worry about this.

Wakebrad - Ski ropes come in all different price ranges, just like wakeboard ropes. Not saying most aren't cheap, but some get up near $80-90 bucks.

97Response, I figured so. I was just comparing to wakeboarding. You can't find a wakeboard rope new for less than $40 where you can find dirt cheap ski ropes just to get you by. Obviously these aren't going to be the absolute best but they will do the job for amatures.
