|

I have been told by countless riders that a no stretch rope has tremendous improvement over a standard ski rope, but i have never had a chance to use one.
Im looking for some advice on when these ropes are so much better, and why everyone keeps telling me to get one.
thanks in advance _________________ it's not dirt or snow...so huck and throw! |

It is the best $100 you can spend in wakeboarding.
Search this site and you will find plenty of support, search ebay too there are a lot of good deals out there for >$100.
In a nutshell here's how it works. A ski rope will stretch when cutting, not permitting you to accellerate as fast into the wake. It is a flabby feel of resistance. Once you pop off the wake you are no longer providing the resistance by cutting thus the line recoils pulling you with it causing you to fight the rope and not be able to perform your intended trick.
Non-stretch does not do this, it allows the rider to "load" the line with however much tension they want, allowing them to generate however much speed the want into the wake. It is a true resistance. When you pop off the wake, there is to recoil so your flight it much truer as well.

thanks for the explanation.
-89 skier-
looks like a solid line, is that rope hard to see in the water?
we have pretty dark water where we ride. _________________ it's not dirt or snow...so huck and throw! |

I'll disagree a bit with these guys. A new ski rope will feel like a rubber band, but once it is skied in a bit, you won't be able to tell MUCH of a difference.

I'm gonna disagree with what bradb said. I have an old ski rope that we use to ride doubles with sometimes. That thing is like 10 years old, it has definitely been skiied in but still stretches like silly putty when you cut in. _________________ 2003 Mastercraft Xstar w/ the 6.0 Cadillac |

These are all great reasons to buy a non-stretch rope but the main should be safety. I used to use the old ropes and the handle would sling shot back into the boat when someone would let go of the rope after a fall. A new rope is a great investment. |
