DIY board rack for under $50

ok, so you have all sorts of nice equipment. Maybe a pair of skis or two, maybe a snowboard, maybe a couple of wakeboards, a wakeskate or two and a couple of skateboards. So all this equipment is just sitting in your room collecting dust, its impossible to clean around cuz its taking up so much space, maybe it keeps falling over onto you brother's head like mine did, so what do you do to keep it off the floor and display it for all the world to see? I will show you what I did, and I did it all for under $50.

So first things first, you have to find a place on your wall where you have room in all directions to fit everything you need. You also need to know how many things you plan to hang, in my case I wanted to hang a wakeboard, two pairs of skis and a longboard. I also wanted to put a shelf on the bottom at the head of my brothers bed so he could put things on it (I'm on a bunkbed)

So the first thing I did was to decide what a good lengths between the two bars I was gonna hang, for me, it ended up being 38 inches because it fit around my wakeboard bindings but was still narrow enough to keep my longboard on while not being on the wheels or the trucks.

These are all the parts you will need

two slotted rack holders to you desired length, mine are 6 feet long each
two racks for each thing you want to hang with the adiquate length to hold it.
enough plumbing foam with adhesive to cover each of your racks
if you are going to be drilling into drywall, you will need these to hold in the screws

and finaly you need some wood screws if you are going to be drilling into a stud.

The second thing you do is use a stud finder to locate all of the studs and mark them all with a pencil.


Then you need to draw a horizontal line across the wall using a level and one of the bars you will hang up on the wall. Then, to center the racks on the wall, you measure an equal distance on both sides so you have your desired distance in the middle, then you need to mark it off on the horizontal line. after that, you need to use your level to make sure your verticle lines remain verticle. then you need to hold up your strips and mark with a pencil where you are going to drill your holes.



In my case, one of my bars was on a stud and one was not, for the one that was, I drilled pilot holes where I marked the holes then I put up the bar and screwed it in.



for the other bar, i had to knock in drive wall anchors with a hammer and open them up using a manual screwdriver



then I unscrewed the screws, held up the bar and screwed it in by hand as to not rip out the drive wall anchors



Then I took my racks, and cut the foam to the right length and stuck it on using the built in adhesive.



Then I chose the location of each hanging thing on the bars and stuck the racks on and hung my equipment.

The result was something of beauty.
