abec 7 is the best 5 is second best 3 is third and thats about it there may be some special ones higher the 7 but idono. Im skateing speeddemon abec 7s and there awesome. I also like Reds. It depends if you want them really fast or just fast or slow.

It all depends on what your style of skating is. If you ride park I think you'll want a faster bearing, and if strictley ride flatland I think an abec 5 will suffice. I could be wrong and if I am i'm sure i'll be corrected. _________________ I wish my grass was emo; then it would cut itself |

A) There is no ABEC 4, they only go in odd numbers. There are higher rated ABEC bearings than 7, but mostly they're for downhill skaters.
B) Higher numbers don't mean better. ABEC is a German rating system that assesses the smoothness & noise a bearing makes at certain speeds. The quieter & smoother a bearing is at higher speeds the higher the ABEC rating, simple as that. That also means the price goes up, & often it's money that you don't need to spend.
Truth be told, if you're skating a lotta street or any type of urban terrain on a regular basis you probably don't need to go any higher than an ABEC 3 bearing. If you skate mostly parks or well-groomed courses then you might consider investing in a higher rated bearing. On your average skate terrain there's tons of grime, dirt, & other fun things that will get in the bearing & crap it up. The higher rated the bearing the faster its performance will wear down & the more often you'll need to clean it. For the extra money you pay you won't notice that much of an improvement in performance either.
I say get some Bones Reds, they cost about $15 & last a good long time before they bog down. Plus they have a removable shield on the back that makes 'em easy to clean. |

Yep, Jester's bang on... You really don't need anything above 3s, and Reds were the best bearings (for the money) I had when I skated... |

As stated above, reds are very good bearings. I'm currently riding them. Prob the best bang for your buck. _________________

and when u buy new bearings they need to be worn in so if u dont feel like wearing them in. take the board on a tread mill. if u dont have one try to find some one who has and pay them or ask them if u can use it . about 2-3 hours will be good . but while u on the tread mill. when u stand on the board push hard so the bearing are having frriction. that is the only way or u will be on the mill for 7 hours. |

realbatman, stop posting stupid stuff. reds are great for street purposes, spend more if you need a lot of speed for like downhill of pool/park skating. they are super easy to clean, roll at a good speed, are somewhate durable, and are cheap. I always thought bearings only needed a half hour of break in time, even if it is two hours thats one decent skate day. Fresh out of the box bearings arent that much slower than broken-in bindings anyways. |

realbatman, are you serious about the treadmill thing? If you are you need help. And for me it's not as much that the new bearings are a tiny bit slower than the broken in ones, but that they don't feel as good. But that's just me. _________________
