Id really like to get into some filming of our wake sessions this year. Right now I have a sony cybershot (the little thin one), my mom also has one, my sister has an older Canon i believe Dig cam, and i also have a JVC dig video camera, forget the model i will check tomorrow. I have a P4 2.8, 512m, MR9700 and 60gb 7200HD in my dell inspiron 9100 laptop. I am looking to bump up to 1gb of ram and get a 160gb external drive. The cybershots are 5.1 mega pixel and my sis's cam is 2.1 i think. Will i be able to pull some good action shots from this camera? Its great for taking around with me for spur of the moment stuff because its so small, but can it handle action footage? Also, is my computer up to par for some light video editting. As far as software for editting, what should i look at? I have the latest from photoshop, no plugins though.

looks like i have the JVC GR-D30, pretty inexpensive i guess http://overture-cnet.com.com/JVC_GR-D30/4014-6500_9-20802697.html

Sorry to disappoint, but the Cybershots arent that great for action shots... I have a DSC P10, and I can't stand it when doing wake photos, there is just too much of a delay from pushing the shutter button to the photo actually being taken... Also the biggest boost mode is only three shots, taken over 1.5 seconds I believe.. Your computer should be up to speed for video editing, although you may have to invest in a FireWire card, to upload the video to it in the first place. As for video editing programs, I personally use Pinnacle Studio, and I think it is great, easy to use and effective... Others to think about are Adobe Premier and a few others...

right on, well i uh....have premier and pinnacle now...yea, friend has copies of em. My dad also has a nice regular camera that takes some pretty good shots, too bad the cybershot blows for action shots.. what is a good action digi cam that wont break the bank?

You really need a digital SLR. A used/new Canon Rebel 300D with one of the less expensive zooms like a Canon 80-200 is probably your least expensive way in. figure $300-400 for the body and there are some lens in that zoom range for $200 and under. You won't get any sequences with that body but the shutter lag is quick enough for you to adequately time your shots with a little practice. With the P&S cams like the ones you mention above it's hit the shutter when the rider hit's the wake and pray.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fO5nyHoBOxA/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=257GRD90

specs there. its 16x optical zoom, 680,000 pixels, 700x digital zoom mini DV format. How is this camera for shooting wake footage?
