I am having a little drama. I leave for Lake Tahoe on Saturday. Sounds great right? Unfortunately, we are flying in and out of reno. So here's the story.

I have flown more times than one can even imagine. I felt totally comfortable with it! Until.... I visited lake tahoe a year ago. We were flying out of reno in a snow storm. The plane began to shake... (no big deal right? ive been through turbulance before), until the plane started to rock very violently. I felt like I was in a movie! The lights were flickering and everything! People were even crying! I was a little nervous, but still okay. Then the plane dropped and the kid in front of me hit the ceiling! I had enough time to say sorry for everything I had ever done while we were dropping! When we got off the plane we talked to the pilot. He said that was the worst he had ever flown through in his 17 years of being a pilot! He told us that we lost 1,200 ft. of altitude in our drop! Then some girl that lives in reno told us that she always has turbulance when flying in and out of reno!

So my question for you all... is this true? Will I once again be freaked out by the terrible turbulance? I was considering taking two nydols and a budlight to help me sleep through it... ha ha.

Lol. I live in Tahoe and fly out/in to Reno all of the time and I have never had any problems. I have been through wayyy worse turbulance (flying around the hurricanes last time I was in FL.) Right now there is a 30% chance of rain in Reno on Saterday...the weather report changes everyday, i doubt you will have to worry about anything.

Besides it seems like stuff like that doesn't happen too much, everyone mabye has one or two stories. I wouldn't stress it, if it was really bad they would fly you into a different airport, they wouldn't risk that many lives/lawsuits.

Good Luck Wink

What are you doing in Tahoe? Riding? Where are you staying?

JRock*Girl, Thanks so much for the info. I can settle down now. We are staying in some little motel by the gondola of heavenly in south lake. I think maybe its called the best tahoe west or something like that. ?? I forget. I know that we are going to stay in north lake tahoe for a few days too with one of my friend's close friends. We plan on boarding at heavenly, squaw... and a few others, but we havnt picked them yet. I will be there sat-thursday. You gonna be boarding those days?

As a pilot, I will tell you that there are no garauntees that you won't hit turbulence in any flight. I will also tell you that it won't be likely that you will hit that severe of turbulence again in your lifetime. Air Traffic Control will generally guide your flight through the smoothest air possible. Sometimes it's not possible, especially while climbing out or decending. You'll be fine, I'm sure.

Looks like an awsome time...Would have been cool to take some rusn with you, its a shame I work freaking 7 days a week lol.

I think you were on the other side of the lake anyways...Looks like Southshore. Did you ride at Heavenly? I havn't been there since WAYYY back in the day when I ski raced Laughing

wakejunkeygirl, its definatly one thing I am going to miss. I've lived here my whole life and I am still like a tourist about to get in an accident because im starring at the lake the whole time I drive, its still amazes me.... I <3 It (puke) Sorry that might have been a bit too sentimental for ya Wink Haha. I love this place.

JRock*Girl, That woulda been sweet to ride with you! I cant believe anyone would want to move from there. It is so beautiful! That was my second visit to tahoe and it just re-assured me that I want to move there. We went all the way around the lake and visited a few friends that live around north lake. I still like south lake better. I like all the action. We boarded at squaw, kirkwood, and heavenly. We wanted to go to sugar something or other but didnt make it. When are you moving away from tahoe? I will be there next december.

Lake Rabbit, Im moving to Orlando around June. I absoultly love it here, but its a small town! I need to get out! But I willl definatly be back someday. I will probably be around next Decemeber christmas time, home from school.

What mountain did you like the best? I live on Northshore, I don't make it to Southshore much but I should definatly work on that...

Mazzam01, both. But the summer temps are still pretty chilly. The water gets about 65...Somedays you can go snowboarding in the morning then wakeboarding in the afternoon...crazy.

JRock*Girl, As of right now I really like Heavenly the best. However, I havnt gone to some of the other mountains on the north shore, so I really cant judge. I would like to visit Sierra and a few others up there. squaw was the only one on the north shore that I made it to. Which mountain is your favorite?
