I was wondering if any of you knew of a good manufactured housing for either 5 1/4 or 6x9 tower speakers. I can get a really good deal on the speakers, I just need something to put them in. thanks for any help/suggestions.

Yeah it is going on a tower. The only reason I don't want to buil a box is beacause they have to come down everyday, and a box is pretty heavy. I might just use 6x9 boxes from a local car audio place. Does anyone know of any fiberglass enclosures?

I've searched the net for hours trying to find somthing affordable to no avail so please let me now if anyone finds anything. There are some REALLY SWEET boxes being made (cant remember the names but they advertise in the mags) but they are way beyond my price range.

It's on my "to do" list to offer something (affordable / universal / empty tower speaker cans) but not an active project today.

Check the older posts, some people have done AWESOME jobs building their own. The ones with 6" Diameter PVC pipe were impressive for how little $$$ he had in them.

Jake,

I may not know boats very well, but audio gear I do know. The best I have seen for mounting speakers on a tower, for cheap, is to put some 6-6.5in PVC with two end caps, stuff it with insulation then mount the 5.25 speaker inside. Make sure to seal it up real well with some clear silicone. With such a small speaker you don't need a really stiff enclosure. PVC will be just fine. The key is to find the air space req. for the speakers then build the tubes to match, If you want to get really daring you could port it.

If you can swing like $30 for a really nice clamp, check out the "reservoir clamps" at www.pro-werks.com. They were mentioned in a previous post and I ordered one to check it out and it looks good.

I am one of those freaks that buys some things for the sole purpose of of taking it apart to see how it was made.

Good luck on your project and post some pic's, hints and tips when your done.

Bill

My recipe for "quick" tubes:

1 - 6" PVC coupler
1 - 6" PVC end cap
2pcs - 6" PVC tubing cut to 6" lengths

Take one 6" piece 6" PVC tube and connect coupler and end cap.

Carefully drill speaker mounting holes into remaining 6" piece 6" pVC tube. Mount speaker. Insert this speaker/tube assembly into open end of coupler.

DONE!!

See....
