|
|
Hey guys, I'm new to the sport and am looking for my first board and bindings setup. Just wondering if anyone has any input for me, or even better, if you know where I can find a decent used board for a good price. Any help is appreciated. Either post here, or e-mail me at dmbphan@gmail.com. thanks!
P.S. I'm 23 about 6'1" around 195lbs if any of that can get me better adivce for the board type. |

The 138 Substance would be a good board, it is a higher end board but it will help you progress alot and the board will be good when you advance aswell
As for bindings the Alphas would be a good choice, great bindings for beginer to pro with a good price tag and great support _________________ www.Crawlinbc.com |

Would the 138 support my big ass though? it seems from what i've found, that boards around 142 seem to fit my weight range. _________________ Life's short, Live it up, Wounds go away, embarassment doesn't! |

DMBeer81, That would be a good first setup.
But when to advance in the sport you are going to need to get better gear _________________ www.Crawlinbc.com |

| DMBeer81, they've had problems with delaminating. I wouldn't go for it. look for last year's trip or search with super suctions. Pretty cheap and easy to learn basics on. |

| that board was made in 1993. if you buy it you should put it in you own antique shop. but you don't have an antique shop, so don't buy it. it weighs about 3x as much as modern day twin tip boards. |

Hyperlite
The State
3DS
Era
Liquid Force
Trip
Substance
Gator Boards
Caddy
Gonzales
CWB
Pure
Tattoo
all good beginner boards sorted by company, that you wont out grow too soon
as far as size I would say 139 to 142 range is good _________________ TEAM PIRATE, AAAARRRGGGHHH YOU READY?

holy crap! talk about old
man stay away from it. Just keep in mind, "you get what you pay for" if you are serious about this, you may want to consider having a higher end board, like some people have said you will progress faster, and most of all you have more fun.
ITS ALL ABOUT THE FUN! |

DMBeer81, I agree with Kento911 here. All of the above boards are or were "pro" models at one point or another.
If you want a good deal, check out the CWB models. The price points on those boards are excellent as they are not currently "pro" models. If it helps, Derek Conway (CWB rider) rides the Tattoo currently, so I suppose it still could be considered a "pro" model. The Pure is a great shape as well, very forgiving and smooth, with great response off the wake. _________________

the best thing you can do is find a local shop that lets you demo. You can usually apply the demo $$ to your purchase. You might also be able to buy the demo board for cheaper. Every one has different preferences when it comes to boards and bindings.
Personally I think the best beg board I have tried is the Liquod Force Evo, it has been a couple of years but had a lot of people start out on it and like it. |

Thanks, I'd like to demo boards, but there aren't any small shops in my area. It's not a big watersports area (stamford, CT). I'll look around though. _________________ Life's short, Live it up, Wounds go away, embarassment doesn't! |

DMBeer81, check into www.trinityboardshop.com
They have a great demo program and you don't have to be in/near a shop to do it. _________________

Thanks guys. I ended up buying a 2004 Hyperlite Motive with '04 split Bindings. I'm so pumped to get out and start damaging myself this season! _________________ Life's short, Live it up, Wounds go away, embarassment doesn't! |

Good choice of setup DMBeer81. I bought a motive last season as a first board and loved it (even with the cheap no-name bindings I used)! I love it that much, I'm keeping it for this season and upgrading to Parks bindings!
This board was the choice of one of Hyperlites pros (can't remember his name) a few years back - if it's good enough for a pro, it's good enough for me! |

| You'll be happy with the motive for a couple of years. I have that set up for two summers and it's a great board to start with. When you do advance it's also a good board to keep as a teaching board for when you friends want to learn. |
