It looks like a nice video but I couldn't watch it because of interlacing problems. Does anybody else see that problem, i.e. where any motion blurs the image to hell?

Jakeman, great vid, I really enjoyed watching him ride, he looked like he was having fun and still pushin himself, there were some really stylish oves in there, not the hardest, just him putting his own spin on a more basic maneuvar...my favorite thing to watch, lol

great editing too, not too fancy, but still looked good

Exellent video, great riding! The editing was really nice too! He looked like he was having fun wakesurfing haha. I haven't seen anyone try to do some of those moves he did lol.

That would be the dumbest editing technique ever. Seriously though, it's in the encoding. With interlaced video, you basically capture every other frame at half the vertical resolution. Then, when you play it back, you get two frames at a time, interlaced with each other, i.e. every other line is from a different frame. If you have horizontal motion, the two frames are out of line with each other and you get those nasty vertical edges. The panning, back and forth, of the riding shots makes this problem very severe.

It may look better on some screens, e.g. on a television. I'm looking at it on a laptop LCD and it looks like total crap. It may as well have been shot on 70's era VHS with a dirty head. Maybe it's better on a CRT; I'm not sure. Anyway, there are easy ways to fix it. I'm not sure what software these guys are using but I'm sure they could play with the settings and fix this. With all the effort that I'm sure they've put into filming and editing the video, it's really a shame that the image quality has to look like crap because of a simple setting.

I'd post a screen cap of what I mean but the image upload feature of the site is broken at the moment.

The footage was taken at the end of July when Jake and Angi went to The Boarding School and Keith was there to help out. I edited the film. The music credits are at the end as well...

Keith was coming off of a knee injury which is why there is alot of emphasis on his preparing (streching, knee-brace, etc). Also explains the crashes...I believe he usually wakesurf on a much shorter board too...which would make all of the attempted tricks easier.

The video looks alot better on a smaller screen, I'm still messing around with saving...

ya lyman hung out w/ us for 2 days; he is a great coach and probably the most positive pro/person I have ever met.
that part in the video where he points to his eyes then to the camera he was showing Jud how to rotate a roll 2 revert.
the "Off the Leash" video(on the 420 site) is actually when he blew out his knee w/ 1 year of rehab. He is being patient w/ his knee and now throwing it down even harder. He Rides a 90' rope!!!!
It was sick when lyman started wakesurfing. he was doing crazy tricks; when he ollied the wake and the 180's to blind

Yeah, Keith was so awesome to ride with, the first day he came out with us I was working on my HS w2w 180 and he gave me a few pointers and I threw it on my first attempt that day....and he was super amped for me. Mr. Green

nice video - i see the video problem but what do you expect when you have to put things on the web?

as for the song, it works well for these kind of videos it was used well in chulksmack (a full length snowboarding video from this season) for probably one of the best edits of the year

anyone get the error and resolve it themselves? Did it fix itself when you let the video download all the way?

J*Rcok compressed the video even more; so when I get home I will upload it to the server for anyone who gets the error.

Here's what I'm talking about:

See how every other line is offset? It shouldn't be that way. It should be a clear picture, with maybe just a slight blur, depending on the shutter speed. I've always been able to avoid this by messing with the capture settings. Obviously, it's too late for that once you've edited it. There should be something you can do with the export settings or maybe a filter though.

The Ricky G video didn't have this problem at all.

the offset lines is the interlacing of the video frames. it has nothing to do with the shutter speed. i didnt notice that until now...weird.

even after you edit you can still de-interlace them. im not sure what program you are using but for premiere pro right click each of the clips and go to "field options" then under the processing box click "none." other versions of premiere are pretty similar, and im sure fcp is as well.

thanks, now that I see the problem I will try to resolve it; you mentioned it might have happend w/ it was captioned. I shot the video at 2000-4000 shutter so could it be possible it happened when it was transfered from the tape to the pc?

the ricky g video was edited w/ a different pc/editor

Ignore the shutter speed comment. I just meant that the only effect of the motion should be a blur (the severity of which would depend on shutter speed), not the effect that you see from the interlacing.

I'm no expert on this but I believe when you go from the camera to the computer, the video is converted from interlaced to progressive. The software has to be smart enough to compensate for differences between adjacent interlaced frames.

According to scott a, some software can fix it post-capture. Do a google search on interlacing, de-interlace, or something like that, and whatever editing program is being used.
