Is anyone here proficient with PHP by chance? I'm trying to program a secure website area where users can submit forms and then admininstrators can login and view/print them off.
Basically I want the form data written to .txt files on the server and then you would need to login to retrieve them from a list. I'd also like to have the .txt files spit out into an .html formatted page when retrieved for viewing/printing purposes.
If anyone can help or has suggestions please PM me, I'd really appreciate it. |

ontrider, do you really need them in .txt format if you want them to export into HTML to print anyways?
What I would do is save the form data into your database and then retrieve this information and populate an HTML page for the administrators. Do you have a database backend? _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

I've got mysql on the server which I could use.
I'm actually in the middle of taking a course on php/mysql right now and haven't really cracked the mysql book open yet since we're just starting that part. I'd like to learn how to do all this obviously but with what I'm doing right now, I need to get done asap and can't really wait until I get through a 600 page book.
But no, it doesn't have to be .txt files - I'm open to suggestions.
Maybe I can catch you on AIM/MSN a bit later if that's cool. (I can't use them at work ) Thanks |

You don't have to read through an entire book to learn SQL. You can get the basics down in an hour or 2.
If you walk through this website you can learn enough to solve your problem.
http://sqlcourse.com/intro.html
Go step by step. You'll learn the syntax and structure. Once you've gone through it you should be able to have a good idea of what to do. You can email me about the specific data and how to setup your tables along with specific queries. I've worked with PHP some but I use ASP and SQL daily. The application I wrote in PHP sounds very similar to the one you're working on.
When's your deadline? _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone.

I'll read through that link when I get a chance at lunch or something, thanks. (woohoo... crash course )
This stuff was supposed to go up with a new website when it was launched, but they messed around with a bunch of content last minute and it wasn't possible to get it all ready. So there's no actual deadline, but I should really get it done as soon as I can. I'll probably be working on it all week. I have no idea really how long it should take to do.
I'll read through that stuff though and will get back to you with some more specific info - I appreciate the help though!
And you get to do sql/asp all day!!! Sounds like lots of fun. I do more front end web graphics work, limited programming - mostly html and a bit of jscript and perl. |

haha nice.
You will definately benefit from doing it the right way the first time (SQL) rather than using a text file.
yeah, I do SQL and ASP all day... it's alright. I enjoy the challenge of new problems. You can always find a more efficient way to program something.. that's what I like about it. It can get old but for the most part I enjoy it. And it puts food on the table. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |
