Getting ready to buy a boat and now need to decide what size and type/style board. I am 6'3, 250 lbs and never boarded before. Looking for something used but don't know what size is good for me. I doubt i will do aerial tricks, just want to get up and maybe learn some easy tricks to start. What would you all recommend?
Thanks
Sean

I'm don't weigh quite as much, 6'4" and 210lbs, but I started on a hyperlite Motive 144. It was a real good board for me. I liked the stability of the board on the water when I was learning. Early on I rode some high end boards that felt very "slippery" until I developed my skills. You didn't mention anything about bindings but just in case you have feet like mine, big, remember that the bindings will stretch out over time so don't overestimate the size bindings that you'll need just because they feel tight initially.

The other important thing to consider if you are buying a boat is to make sure you get one with enough motor. Deep water starting my little brother, 6' and 155lbs, up is a world different then starting someone in the 200lbs range. So make sure your new boat has enough motor and you might be able to get away with alittle smaller board.

Good luck and enjoy.

My buddy is 6' 4" and has to be close to an even 300. He rides the Hyperlite Motive 144 and loves it as a beginner. This board should take you through your first two or three seasons depending on how much you ride and how much you progress. You might find one used in the classifieds on this site or try ebay...otherwise support your local boardshop - they may have some '04s at a discounted rate. Welcome to wakeboarding!
