I have the original wedge design which has like a foot long pin that you have to push through a shaft to lock the wedge in place. This was an extremely poor design, because it is so difficult to get in and out because when it is pulled out, it interferes with the speedometer pickups and you have to bend them out of the way and strain and spin to break the pin loose. I don't know if this is specific to the Sportsters, but it sux.

Does anyone know how much it is to upgrade to the new spring-pin design? And how much a new platform with the hatch door is?

my local dealer said that the new wedge with the spring pins doesnt make as big of a wake as the older pull pin ones, so you might want to check a dealer and see what they think.
