Tivo DVR tips

I don't think there has been a thread on this, and I'm sorry if there has been because my search skills are lacking, but.... I have a tivo DVR and it's almost full, I was wondering if anyone knew how to connect a Laptop to the DVR so that I can download and possibly burn programs onto dvd. Is there any special equipment I will need or can I just plug and play?

If it's a Series 2 Tivo you can connect to it with Home Media option by running Tivo server software on your PC (files are huge though). You will need a USB to ethernet adapter plugged into the USB port on Tivo.

or

you can modulate your Tivo's a/v outputs to a channel and then record that channel on your PC through a TV tuner card. I do that with DVD's, Tivo, as well as my Cable DVR.
