Id_Rather_Be_On_A_Board - Since I started this thread, we haven't had a chance to make it back out to the handrail I'm going to try. In the meantime, I’ve been setting up my regular flat rail on inclines (down ledges, gaps, etc) while TRYING to prepare myself for the handrail.

79nawteak, Sweet thats how i got the balls to hit a handrail near my house. The first time is scary then its easy. Do like the other guy said go fast and tap it then slow it down and slide it. Have fun and good luck.

Ok well I finally worked up the sack to start trying the d@mn handrails. Basically I have a hand rail at my house I have been doing kinda like a ghetto "caveman" on to if that makes any since at all. The rail lands in grass. However, this weekend I'm going to put some ply wood down on the ground and try to roll away from it. If I land on the ply wood I may start trying to ollie onto the rail. Wish me luck

I'm still around, I'm just more hit & run these days 'cuz of grad school.

This Wednesday I may shoot some video & maybe get some sequence rips of my skating. Hopefully I'll be able to actually land tricks this week.

That makes two of us. I also have a new gap to try this weekend. It's about a 4 foot drop over a 4 foot grass gap. Should be pretty fun.

ok what u need to do on a handrail the key is to ollie out far before you get on the hand rail, the best size stairs to start handrailing on is probably a 7 set, because then u can ollie out far, so when you try it first remember dont try to ollie on the very beggining of the rail. Wink

Okay...........first you need the "balls" to do the handrail......... Hasn't anyone seen AFV? It seems to end badly ALOT! Once you get the balls, try to keep them......I say.

Go for it. Just commit yourself to the trick. tell yourself that your gonna do it. dont do a whole lot of ride ups because you will psyche yourself out. just go fast and hit it. dont think about what can happen if you fall, tell yourself you will make it.

i used to skate pretty hard, like all day, i used to be able to fs and bs, 50-50 and 5-0 a 9 set, but the first time a bs slid a handrail was a 6 set, trust me, if you have ur flat bar dialed in, then maybe put it down a burb and so on just to get the feel, its not very hard, but your going to fall your first few tries, and dont roll up on it slow, its a death wish

79nawteak have you hit the thing yet. your first try you will just tap with your board and jump off. thats what i did. then you'll go longer and longer, eventually get the whole thing down, and be ready to try fs boards

hmm, dunno if it helps at all, but i find that getting onto handrails when doing FRONTSIDE boardslides is a bit easier. if you're good at those, i would suggest them first. dont take my word for it, maybe i'm just different than other people, but i figured my 5 cents wouldnt hurt.
