jcoll188, tearing of ligaments in your knees...all of them. I've heard of Torn Rotater cuffs, board cutting head open...

Injuries from strictly wakeboarding are the ones above...sometimes people get more serious injuries on sliders.

Arm through rope handle also can cause some nasty injuries. The others listed the most common ones.

I've seen a bad knee fracture from trying to get up with the board already turned. A group of guys was trying it for the first time and nobody knew the standard way of getting up. He had his left knee forward-the driver hit it and he heard a snap before he got out of the water. If you don't know what you're doin' then take a lesson.

I think it's more dangerous riding behind the boat than on sliders. Seems like the slider injuries are quite minor - just scrapes and bruises, but behind the boat you can get really messed up.

Maestro, I'd agree with you if you are wearing a helmet and have proper shielding on the supports of the slider. But if you build a rickety slider that has bad news written all over it.

I would think eardrum and concussion would be pretty common. Although the only wake-related injury I've ever had was arm through the handle. My entire arm was purple and swolen for 2 months.

Very true Wakebrad - I was just assuming that people would take those precautions... then again, sometimes assumptions make an ass out of us all! Rolling Eyes Laughing

I have gotten a hyper-extended thumb (twice), middle finger (don't know how I managed that but I did), and pinky (another "how the #@&^), also I nailed my elbow pretty bad once but nothing some ice couldn't fix. Very Happy

I hear the worst are relating to the knees:

Torn/severed ACL Anterior Crucient Ligament
Torn/severed PCL Posterior Crucient Ligament
Damage to the maniscus (sp?)

Etc, etc.

Also if the water is shallow enough for sliders you could hit the bottom, also, duh, hitting the slider Sad

Yeah I popped two eardrums within two months last season. Doh!!! Fortunately I have a specialist that doesn't keep me off the water. He just had me plug it while riding. Gotta love it.

speed obviously will make a difference, most people board around 25mph, its not that speed that is the problem, its the speed you hit the wake at, because you increase that speed when you cutting into the wake, so if it all goes wrong you can be hitting the water at 30mph+ which can seem like hitting concrete. The left side of my head is weaker and to save probs later in life a wear a lid (helmet) and a flak jacket which has saved my ribs a couple of times. Get a good flak jacket (i got jetpilot), they cost money but deflect a lot of impact so its worth it while your learning. But my personal preference is looking after my head, its all to easy to concuss yourself, which we think is funny but can cause a lot of damage... but thats why we love it, everyone thirives on danger some how Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
