our boat didnt plane very well in the lower speeds so we bought a stingray for our outboard. its like two small wings that sit above the prop. anyway it made a hell of a differance it planes in the lower speeds now which is awsome it also makes it a whole lot easier to get up i dont know y but it does

it helps the transom rise up out of the water at lower speeds, similar to how an airplane wing provides lift.

I had an 18 foot fletcher with an I/O. the engine was only 165HP and it was a dog to get up behind. Over here those things are called Dolefins. They worked really well.

I second the recommendation on these things. Up here we call them Doelfins or WhaleTails. My old 70hp outboard had them and it was great for 2 reasons: 1) pulling up heavier guys was easier and 2) when you're under way you can trim the engine up and it acts sorta like the Malibu wedge (increases downward force). For a 15' skiboat, we had some pretty nice wakes for wakeboarding Laughing

haha my boat dosent plane very well when we had ~1800 (fat seat, and 500 up front) and 11 people (~175lbs each) ... but i bet if i had a bigger motor it would have. 275hp will only take 10 people and all that weight out of the water.

we have those things on the boat at my cabin, and i always wondered what would happen if i took them off and flipped them up-side-down... probably would make it tough to get on a plane but would they drag the back end down more and thuse make the wake bigger?
