|
|
| I've waterskied for a while, but want to get into wakeboard. I just want to make sure my boat is good for it, because theres no point in buying a board and bindings and all that if I don't have a boat to pull it with. Its the same boat I use for water skiing, its 18 ft, i/o 4 cylinder 4.0 liter i think. It doesn't have any problem pulling me around on my skis. The thing I'm more curious about is those towers that everyone hands, I just use the ropes that hook to those two brakets on the back. Do I need it, or can I wait till I get better? Because, lets face it, I only have a part time job, so I don't have that much money. |

You don't need one, but It is nice to have. Good idea on your part, I'd wait until you like It, and then make the investment.

Yes, they are expensive, but brands such as Monster Tower (www.monstertower.com) makes strong towers that fit most boats and are not costly compared to other popular brands.

That should be fine. Many people wakeboard behind I/O's.

Once again, thats perfectly fine to start out on.
Another thing you may want to consider is purchasing a non-stretch rope. They are costly, but are worth It. In skiing, you want stretch in the line, but in wakeboard you want no stretch. Thats just one other thing to consider once you start wakeboarding. _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

Nice, looks like I'll be putting my skis away this summer and getting out on a board thanks.
Oh yea, about the boards and bindings themselve, what are some good brands that I know won't be selling me cheap pieces of crap and are good for a beginner? or is there some place on the site with it that I just missed like a n00b |

Daywalker., There are many good combo deals on the internet that you can get boards and bindings together for a good price. Any brand should do, heck, If you don't want to spend very much money at all you can go to Wal-Mart or Galyans and buy a whole setup for cheap! And like Hyped said, just search around the forums (using the search function), and you can find some pretty good posts about beginner boards. Good luck. _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

| Look for a board with a continuous rocker. As far as brands, everyone has their favorites, I'd say Liquid Force and Hyperlite are mine. Another thing to consider rather than just buying a board on the internet is going to a local board shop or calling one. My local board shop gives me prices far better than those on the internet and if I found a better price than the one his he would go below that price. |

I personally think Galyans is a ripoff (for some things). They wanted like $250 for this hyperlite wakeskate that I saw on the internet everywhere for 100. I went back in at the end of the season and it was marked down to $150, still way too much considering the prices elsewhere. |

i board behing a ski boat, a little bigger than yours, but it still doesnt make a very large wake, it you are concerned with tying your rope high, but dont want to spend much money then you might want to look into getting an extended pylon. _________________ www.steelmx.com

i started on a board with a 3 stage and it worked great for me. if you have a smaller boat you might want to get a 3 stage because it will get you more pop off the wake. Something like a blended three stage i think would be best, but thats just my opinion. _________________ www.steelmx.com

don't know how much you are looking to spend but this is a great deal. These bindings are so comfortable and the board is great to learn on. And this package would be great to progress on.
I also don't know if this is the right size for you but I know that buywake still has it available with the 142 so check it out. I don't know if its more than you want to spend but as a newbie I don't think you can go wrong with this setup. _________________ Support your local boardshop...

To meet AWSA specs, ski ropes must have 2.4% strecth at 150 kg static pull. The allowable variance is .4%. A decent poly-E rope is less than half of that. A Spectra rope is even less. I know they call them non-stretch, but they still do, just very little. They do, however, "creep." That is a little strech during every use. Measure a new rope at the beginning of the season and at the end of the season and you will typically find a 3-4 foot difference. Spectra is a brand name for poly-E that has a different method of manufacturing. The material is the same as grocery bags.
Using a low stretch rope (good Poly-E such as Fly High Tak or Spectra) has two effects. It puts the pressure on the rope during the cut where you want it - up, not back to the boat. It will not pull you forward while in the air. _________________ Original Boarder from 1983
