Do you have to wax a board when it is new? Just got a new board and it has not touched snow yet and will be heading to the moutnains in 10 days. |

bmartin, if it is going to be warm and slushy I would recommend a warm temp wax and texture, otherwise the factory will do fine. _________________

Just go ahead and ride the board for a day or so....Usually the factory wax isn't the best stuff, so ride it and that should take a lot of the wax off by the end of the day...Then put a good hot wax on it after....
And like jryoung said, if it is goin to b a warm sunny day... U might wanna go ahead and put some warm wax on, or atleast rough the base up with a scotch pad or structuring brush....Or else ur going to stick and go really slow where the snow has the sun beating on it...

Well, what sorta snow are you riding on?.....And how many times is a whole season...
i Don't see any board really holding it's wax or going without some edgeburn after 7 days or so of riding...I may b wrong, but 7 days is pushing it IMO..

Well, if ur in the park u probably don't really notice it to much...for the most part i just freeride, and when i put a fresh wax on, it makes a huge difference....
if i were u i would deffinately consider waxing a bit more tho....if ur going that much in a season, atleast once a month...

never waxed my board... a waste of time, the first time down the hill it will all come off... but if you have a big gash just get the p-tex and a lighter. gotta have it. Depending on how much you go and what you do... i recommend getting a new board each year, so just kill it everyday, and if you do that i can garentee you will need a new board at the end of the year. no wax... p-tex if you have to |

you're totally hardcore and must be awesome!
if you scrape right, you'll leave just enough wax to last a good while. plus, the stuff gets INTO the base material, like lotion and your right hand. |

I know i'm a little late being that it's August, but i just read about that in Transworld. It says that some boards are finished with a sandpaper type belt that leaves little "hairs". If so you should probably stone grind the base. Also, instead of rounding your edges for rails try backing off the bevel to 90 degrees instead of the factory 1 degree. As for waxing... most manufacturers use basic rub on waxes... and your board can be dried out after just one day of riding. So it's a good idea to hot wax it. I found this article extremely useful since i'm getting a new board this season and i'll see how all the stuff they suggested works. _________________
