does anyone no the details of helmet laws and trespassing laws pertaining to skateboarding? I had my first run-in with the po-po yesterday and am now considering bringing a helmet with me just in case. i was just wondering what the fines are for not wearing a helmet or riding in an area marked "no skateboarding." And im really only curious about laws in california but any news on laws elsewhere would be helpful as well. thanks.

The Headless Chicken, I have never heard a law about having to wear a helmet, unless you are talking about a skatepark, and it wouldn't be a "law" at a park, it would just be a rule. Other than that I dunno

ya its a law for bikes but like a year ago in california skateboarders scooters rollerblades etc. have to wear helmets if they are under 18. gay law. ive been starting to skate through the city to get to further, better spots. i got hassled by a cop for my first time and am kinda worried about getting ticketed cuz my parents are definitely all up tight about. however i read somewhere that its just a 25 dollar fine and you get off with a warning for your first offense. im not sure how accurate this info was but i figured thats not bad. i was also worried about violations of when yor skating areas that are clearly marked no skateboarding. do you get fined.

man that is a gay law. But yeah, I'm pretty sure you get a warning and then get fined for skating in non-skating areas. At least thats how it is in Indy, because last time my brother, my cousin, and I were skating there they gave us a warning.

do you have any idea how much the fine is. i dont have that much cash, its not that big a deal cuz its been raining for a week and i havent been able t skate much and since break is pretty much over my skating time will be cut down. i just want to see if its some ridiculous fine or if its worth the time you get to spend in a kick ass spot.

Sorry dude, I can't help you with the amount. Besides, it is probably different in California than it is in Indy.

Maybe ring up the police station and ask for some accurate info?

Here everyone goes downtown and nobody really says nothin jus to leave. They say they'll call the police so we jus go across the street. Its pretty gay that theres a helmet law and no skate zones.

In Australia people kick us out of spots, but the cops aren't as harsh toward skaters so we have it pretty easy.

i would actually go to the clerk at city hall to find out what you're looking for. maybe it's just my inherent distrust for the police, but i'm betting they 1. don't know until it comes time to give you a ticket for it 2. will give you bad (vague) information 3. will be too busy eating donuts to answer.

also, i'm really confused about the cali law. helmets do not protect against broken bones (other than the skull) and the reason it was started because a girl wasn't wearing a helmet when she got hit by a car? she got hit by a frickin car, mate, it's not like she just fell over and got a concussion.

my dads a cop here in holyoke. he said they take away your board/bike. ive only heard about 1 board taken though. the cops realy dont think the law is that important so they dont inforce it. i go skating w/out a helmet and they dont say anything.
