Hey ya'll  So I got a digital camera from Santa today  It's Canon PowerShot A75. One question, the shutter speed is how long it takes for the camera to actually take the picture right? This was my understanding anyways. I read the book and it didn't say hardly anything about it. I have the shutter speed at 1/2000 right now but it doesn't seem to make much of a differance from the 5 or 10 second one... Am I missing something here? The reason I'm asking is I would like to have this for taking some pictures wakeboarding, and we all know (well I'm sure a few of you) know how annoying it is to get beautiful picture of someone landing... Shutter speed is how long the shutter stays open...I think you are thinking of shutter lag. Shutter lag is how long it takes for the shutter to react to you pressing the button and is just a part of the camera and can't really be changed. (It can somewhat be lessened by prefocusing)
I've shot wakeboarding with P&S cameras before and basically you just have to get used to the lag and compensate by pressing the shutter release earlier than when you actually want to take the picture so that by the time the shutter does open, hopefully, the rider will be at the point you were hoping they'd be.

ya dont get discouraged, thats why u like digital just start snapping away. I know with my canon point and shoot, i just guesstimate and click... sometimes it works some times it dont

| I have that same camera, and the way I get wakeboarding photos out of it is prefocusing. If you press and hold the shutter button half way down, it foucuses, then when you press it the other half down it will snap instantly. try that... It is not as good as a professional quality, but it gets the job done better than guessing when to press the button |
