How do I take a certain section off a dvd and convert it to an .mpg file so I can use portions of it in premiere ???
Is this even possible.......

It depends on the dvd. Most are now encoded with copy protection, but some older ones and some smaller movies aren't. The way I have done it in the past is to play it through your dvd player. You hook up a video camera to the dvd player output. If it is not copy protected you can record straight to a minidv, then put it on your computer.
There are probably dvd ripping programs out there too, but this is the way I've done it and it has worked most of the time. |

its still possible. my brother rips dvds all the time from blockbuster.
there are programs out there that let you do this, and its legal provided you own the dvd and are making a copy for "archival" purposes... _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

scott a,
I can do that however it is still in dvd format .vob files i think, I would like them in mpg format. It's easier to play around with in premiere. _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

just go to download.com. i downloaded a ripper off here and it works great. i was making a video for my youth group that was a rip off of these movies a company makes so i ripped the intro form one and plugged it into premier. _________________

Actually, tonight i just ripped an entire 45 minute snowboarding video (Afterlame) which i am pretty sure was copyright protected and i burned it onto a CD. It worked fine.
WakeTech, i just downloaded a bunch of random ones off of that site and Magic DVD Ripper SE was the one that worked best for me.
