This Mako was hooked in the mouth, only fought slightly for 15 minutes,

came up along side the boat to have a look, long enough for one of the crew

to put a rope around it tail!!! That's when the s**t hit the fan!! The

Shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water

at about 7 Knots. Just like in JAWS. The boat was taking on water, the

Shark would jump completely out of the water at times. This went on for an

hour before the Shark actually drowned. He weighed in at 1082 LBS

Shocked thats the biggest mako ive seen. usually theyre only like 6ft long ...granted they can get bigger. but usually about 6ft is all anyone ever sees. those pics are real ...'deep blue sea' style.

How sad that that magnificent and beautiful shark had to die for nothing better than man's amusement.

its pretty unusual to just 'accidentally' catch the big one.

Its pretty unusual for it to swim alongside the boat after a 7 minute fight too.....unusual things happen all the time. It wasnt an "accident", they caught it on purpose, the size of the shark could largely have been chance though.

If they plan to eat it - fine. If they sell it to a rendering plant - I suppose that's fine, too (wasteful though). If they cut off the fins and sell 'em to the Japan and dump the rest - not fine. If they take their picture with it, say "look what we caught" and dump the carcass - definitely not fine.

It is sad that people would cut off the sharks fins and leave the shark floundering around to starve and slowly die.....stupid shark-fin soup... Mad

Well, they certainly hauled it into the boat on purpose.

you forgot -------> if they take out the jaws and dump the carcass - not fine.

i realize that DRAGGING the boat for a few min certainly is unusual. but then, so is slippin a rope over its tail if they werent trophy hunting. you dont slip a rope over its tail to keep it steady while you take the hook out ...you just cut the line and let it go. you dont want a pissed off mako shark sitting there looking at your hand while youre tryin to take the hook out. thats a recipe for disaster.

Because they lassoed its tail, I am making the assumption that it was not an accident.
