need help again (editing stuff)

alright i'm trying to put video on my comp right now but it isn't working. i've connected the firewire to the camera and to the computer, turned it to vcr mode, and opened up adobe premiere 6.0. then i go to file >capture-> movie capture but the video never shows up. i've tryed rebooting my comp and checked all my settings and they're right. however wheni x out the capture screen a box comes up saying... the DV device is unavailable for device control. if i'm not mistaken this means my computer isn't recognizing my camera. how can i fix this? is it my graphics card? i'm pretty sure that i have a g-force 2 card. please let me know. any help is gratly appreciated.
