suggestions for a new board

well ive decided this summer that my boards getting too small for me. im riding an obrien custom 135, and weigh about 170-175lbs. last summer, the board was fine for me and i was ~155-160lbs, but this season, i noticed i had to bump my speed up a couple mph to be comfortable riding, so i think i need a little bit bigger board.

first off, what size would you reccomend for someone whos 170-180lbs? im 5'11 if that makes a difference. i like a board that feels loose and skatie when off edge, but has a nice hold once on edge. im riding behind a mastercraft tri-star, so the wake is minimal, so it would be nice if the board had good pop. i have good form and technique, and before i packed on a few pounds i could consistently clear the wake at ~70' and get a solid 5ft up, so dont think im relying on equipment to get better. its just that at what used to be my normal speed for the past few year i sink a good bit when i switch edges and start to make my cut.

any suggestions on boards that fit what i want? a removeable center fin would be nice for choppy days, but not necessary. thanks

height does not make a difference...

170-180 maybe around a 138-140...yeah 3 cm doesnt look like much but it works alot to keep u afloat in the water...lol

recommend the 138 substance Cool

or if u want something continuous then the murray is a good board...i think they make a 139 or 140 or something like that...

ur other option is to exercisae so u dont have to buy a new board...lol... Wink

Substance 138, Temet 142, Premier 141, etc. All good boards.

But For choppy conditions wouldn't you want the center fin, and then no center fin for butter days?

Yeah it sounds like you could use a good 3 stage rocker. I ride a parks and even in rough water it holds nice. It comes with 1.3 fins but I like to ride with either .8 or no fins at all.

im not getting fat, just putting on a little muscle(ok...maybe not ALL muscle Wink

). ive been looking in the high 130cm range also. what do you think about these boards? any comments on how they ride?

is the byerly too big? does the current LF trip series ride similar to that of the origional trip series from a few years back?

Ive riden both the byerly and the parks and hands down I love the parks.

Well with the Byerly, your not going to get a loose board, but your going to get good pop. The Parks is a nice board and some people love it, but alot of times it just doesnt fit the riders style and it turns out to be a waste. The Trip would be a good board as well as the Premier and Substance. Most people ride those 2 boards finless.

so the trip, premier, and parks will all be pretty loose if i ride them finless, or with out the center fin(whichever applies)?

which one has the best edge hold when riding finless? from what you've said, i think im leaning towards either the trip or parks.

i have heard that the parks doesnt fit alot of riders styles. what kind of style does the parks tend to work well with?

I'm short and bow-legged. Ive found that for riders of my stature, the parks works well. My friend who had the byerly is tall and straight-legged. He hates the parks. I think that has alot to do with it.

The Parks board is very aggressive and has very much pop. It was made to suit the needs of one of the best wakeboarders in the world, Parks Bonifay and his style of riding. If I were you and just going w2w and stuff I wouldn't go with the Parks, where as the Substance or Premier would be a better idea. I mean It's your board and it's up to you, but thats just my .02. But try to DEMO both and see which you like best. Personal preference is what it's all about.

i the closest shop to me is probably an hour and a half, and the closest one to water is about 3+ hours, so demo'ing is kinda out of the question, although i wish i could
