liquidforce12, Baby oil will take forever to wash off. It could prove to be dangerous - you bindnngs could release unintentionally. Just buy some lube.

I don't think Baby Oil is good for the bindings, or atleast I heard it wasn't. I just stick to a Soap+Water Mix or just go out and buy some slime.

just buy the real stuff. Soap dries out your bindings. Shaving cream is bad for the environment. KY is expensive. Baby oil won't come off when you're riding.

Baby oil stays slick for a while after you put your feet in. So don't use it. It doesn't wash away fast enough.

Buy the real stuff and dilute it 2parts lube 1 part water and it will last a lot longer.

Depends on the soap you use 95% of soaps are petroleum based and not biodegradeble. Keep gas costs down, use vegetable based.

We all lookin' to slide in easy, but oil sounds a little nuts to me?!

I've used everything else in this post at one time or another and it all works, and haven't noticed any binding breakdown other than normal wear & tear.

Note, however that having a tube of KY on the boat when you take an 18 year old girl along for her first time that answered a 'need a third' post can tends to make her a little nervous... Very Happy

The biggest enemy of bindings is UV light. Most bindings are neoprene. Neoprene can be broken down by acids (phosphorus in soaps), oils (skin and baby oil), and sulfates (soaps and some binding lubes). It does take a while, so if you are normal and replace the bindings every 2-3 years, you are ok. Slalom skiers that keep the same bindigs for longer periods of time have noticed the break-down. It ususally starts in the glued-together pieces and eats away at the contact cement.

Soaps that contain phosphates and sulfates are bad for the lakes and rivers. How bad is relative to the water condition to start with. Personally, I won't put soap into the lake or river. Oils are regulated and do not belong in the water for lots of reasons. Vegtable oil is regulated the same as baby oil and the same as crude oil. If it floats and sheens, or causes and emulsion, it is regulated and should not be in our water. Again, personally, I don't do it.

Most commercial binding lubes do not contain phosphates, sulfates, or oils. Most are based on the same ingredient as hand lotion and KY - glycerin. I prefer not to use glycerin - it is a food souce for lots of small stuff in the water and if enough gets in can cause a bloom and increase the oxygen demand upon the water.

So what to use? Personally I use Moose Juice. It is a surfactant. It simply makes water wetter and has no impact on the environment. I know there are a few other brands out there, but cannot come up with the brand names off the top of my head.

There is no definative right or wrong on this subject. Make your own decision as to what to use. In small or marginal water quality lakes, however, the surfactant is the obvious best choice.

Dishsoap could be good for the enviroment it bonds with oils and greeses so if u used baby oil for awhile go use some palm olive to clean your lakeback up
