i feel that tantrums are easier just because they are so relaxed. Its the first invert i learned and my favorite. If you feel more comfortable trying tantrums then do it. You could try both and see what you think is easier. Make sure you really edge into your tantrums.

i ended up learnin both at the same time but landed the backroll first they both felt about the same, but the tantrum required a lot of practice for the timing and how to take off, the landings are also harder IMO. all the backroll was wait till the top of the wake throw it over your shoulder spot your landing.

backroll- no hucking involved
tantrum- lots of timing, hucking involved, and rougher landings

all preference for you though

Shouldn't be any tantrum hucking if you do it properly.

Tantrum is the most relaxed invert there is, no hucking involved.

when you learn tantrums there is lots of hucking involved unless you learned how to do it perfect the first time.

I landed my first backroll on my 10-15th. I landed my tantrum on my 5-10th attempt but I learned the backroll first. I think it depends on the person. The backroll is easier to initiate but harder to land IMO. The tantrum is easier to land and harder to initiate IMO.

Look at the trick tips section of this website for info on how to do both. With a backroll you pretty much just lean to the tail of your board as you come off the top of the wake. It's pretty easy actually. Then it's just a matter of spotting your landing.
