I want to make the most of my wake, but I'm worried that by adding too much weight I'll be guzzling assloads of gas. With dock prices approaching $5, I'm trying to figure out how much extra weight is needed to create a nice shaped wake in an 18 foot open bow I/O without eating a gallon of gas everytime I pull someone out of the water. Is the amount of weight as important as where you place it? I've heard that by adding weight up front you can get a more "rampy" wake. Any truth to that? Can those of you that are riding behind I/O's offer any advice?
Also, what type of prop is best for wakeboarding behind an I/O? Pitch? # of blades? Does the prop material matter all that much? I want to try to make it easier for my drivers to maintain speed, while opitizing gas mileage.
This year it's all about the gas mileage!
F**king Bush! G*d damn c*#ksucker! It's all his fault!

It's not his fault. Look up some facts about Venezuela. It's more about the oil strike down there and the loss of production from that country.

norcal does have a point.

find some fat friends to serve as ballast and charge them for gas money. that will solve both problems.

HighFive is a popular five blade prop for wakeboarding i/os. Low pitch is good for maintaining speed and pulling ballast, but im not sure an exact number. 17 or 19ish should be good. Stainless steel props are usually more efficient then alluminium because of less flex.

Where you place ballast is probly more important than how much, but i haven't really played around with mine yet so I cant tell you where is best.

Gas prices are caused by the US government stockpiling oil to prevent a shortage in case of war, by strikes in venezuela, and by a long cold winter.

I forgot, trimming up also helps a lot to make a bigger more vert wake. You should have the trim just below the point where the prop disconnects with the water (watch out, you have to trim down when cornering if you do that).

Wow, your obviously informed and intellectually stimulating thoughts on Bush are amazing. Was it your Dad or your buddy who explained things so clearly to you?

Princess of the pantysniffers - I don't come to this forum to discuss politics. I appologize for not writing you an essay outlining the reasoning behind my distaste for our leadership. I do realize that the gas prices are not directly related to Bush. I'm not an idiot, and I do have a college education, so I don't appreciate some ramdom know-it-all dickhead making smart ass remarks at my expense. However gas prices are indirectly related to the coming war and the uncertainty concerning oil supplies. Is that really Bush's fault? Probably not 100%. But I can still call him a c*#ksucker if I want. After all this IS a free empire that we're living in. I didn't vote for the prick. I don't support his ass. I don't completely support his recent decisions. I DO, however , support our troops. It's not their fault that they're being thrust into this situation. I just hope that we get them all back in one piece. It's gonna be a pretty scary war.

Anyway, is there anyone out there who can actually stay on topic and offer some tips for optimizing my wake?
