for everybody that has seen the pics, you might have noticed i have a flat board on top of my tower. i just did that for fun, we like to get up there and dive off and stuff. its just a peice of mdf that we soaked with fiberglass resin and then carpeted. we actually bolted through the board and tower then into my speaker box, so the bolts hold every thing together.
if you dont have a flat surface for mounting then i would suggest using some exhaust pipe of the correct diameter cut in half to mount to the top of your towers.

looks great skobi. I'm getting a new video camera this spring. I will have to copy your idea for our boat. The camera I currently use doensn't have a steady shot feature so the images are crap.
We're getting a Panasonic Digital video camera which uses the MiniDV tapes.
Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with Panasonic, or the MiniDV format for recording?

I don't know about panasonic, but minDV is fine. The quality is great, and tapes are only $7 canadian, which is cheap for video camera tapes.

sorry i really dont have any formal plans. but bluefish is right all of the pics of the mount and my kicker and slider are at http://www.wakepics.com/member/SKOBI1
the only part i purchased was the camera mount itself, its a window mount for using in your car, so it has a clamp on the bottom. all you really have to do is fab something to clamp it to and a method of securing it to the rope.

Will mounting the camera without any shock mount hurt the video footage?

The mounts that you can buy don't seem to have any shock absorbers...

I don't actually own one. I was looking at a few, and then decided to build one like skobi1's.

What the hell? I'm confused. The first time I looked at my reply, the attachment was there. The second time it was gone so I put it on my next message. Now they're both back. Aggggggg

I TESTED THE MOUNT YESTERDAY IN MY SHOP. IT WAS REALLY KIND OF AMUSING TO WATCH. I SAT ON TOP OF THE TOWER AND SHOOK THE HELL OUT OF IT WHILE MY BUDDY GRABBED THE ROPE AND RAN BACK AND FORTH JUMPING UP AND DOWN. BUT ANTICS ASIDE I THINK AS LONG AS YOU CAMERA HAS AN IMAGE STABILIZER IT WILL BE OK. THE PLAY BACK FROM THIS TEST WAS DEFINETLY WATCHABLE. IT STILL DOSNT COMPARE TO HANDHELD OR CHASE BOAT FOOTAGE BUT IT WILL FREE UP THE PASSENGERS TO ENJOY THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF HAVING TO FILM.

NICE. THAT IS GOING TO BE MY NEXT UPGRADE TO THE CAM IF THE MOUNT ENDS UP WORKING OUT WELL. MY ONLY PROBLEM IS I ALLREADY HAVE SPEAKER WIRES RUNNING THROUGH THE TOWER ON ONE SIDE AND POWER AND GROUND FOR MY LIGHTS ON THE OTHER. I HAVENT DECIDED IF I WANT TO RUN WIRES IN THE FRONT TOWER TUBES.
