lets say your going to hit the wake HS... carve out TS as far as you can, when you feel you can't go any further, straighten up a little until you feel the rope tighten on you. When you feel this start progresively carving hs toward the wake and you should be good...

IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ROPE YOUR USING IF YOU HAVE A STRETCHY ROPE THAT IS PROBABLY THE PROBLEM. IF NOT THEN WHAT YOU MUST BE DOIN IS TRYING TO HIT IT GOING FAST U NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON TRYING TO DIG YOUR HEELS INTO THE WATER INSTEAD OF GETTING THERE AS FAST AS YOU CAN.

What you need to do is start close to the wake dont edge out real far or you will go flat when you get to the wake. Take a nice smooth edge in, edge through the wake, stand tall and disable CAPS LOCK on your computer.

yaa if the rope you are using is a stretchy rope then it will give you slack on your approach to the wake

thing is though... my rope is an elastic band (especially my old one, its a slalom rope). yet i can still clear both wakes. if you have the technique right... it does not take much to clear the wake. as everyone else has said... progressive edge. let the boat start to pull you into the wake. the most important thing is ti stand tall, but NOT let up! basically imagine pushing the boat away from you. you want to stand tall while keeping that edge deep in the water. i know for some people, "standing tall" causes them to let off on their edge.

Thanks for the tips. I went wakeboarding this weekend and I am about a foot away from clearing the whole wake. Very Happy Wink Mr. Green

You need to wait for the boat to pull you back into the wake, if you just cut out, then cut back in really fast then you will get slack, just let the boat pull you back in and once it does, use a nice progressive edge all the way through the wake

just go balls out... there is no other way. I tried to say i'm just gonna creep closer to it each jump, but then one time, i just said kick up the speed a little bit, and went for it. it feels so good the first time... among other things. Seriously, if nothing else, just let go of the rope, whats the worst that could happen? Oh yeah, death.

DO NOT GO BALLS OUT!!! Take a short cut and just use a progressive edge. The farther out you cut, the less progressive your edge will probably be, and your line will not get tight. It's all about a small, progressive edge.

I agree with wakedude. You don't need a big cut at all to go W2W (at least I don't and I have a fairly wide wake).

If you just go balls out and fly into the wake, you may go W2W but it will be based purely on speed and not proper technique. You are better off learning how to progressively edge through the wake and pop across then to ramp across. Remember that wakeboarding is a sport based on a lot of muscle memory. It is usually easier to learn the correct way from the start rather than to correct a bad habit. Bad habits are hard to break.

Schmo, I agree, I have been wakeboarding for 6 or 7 years and I used to always use a huge approach to the wake for a w2w. I never got much pop but I would be going so fast that I cleared the wake anyway. Now that I'm trying to do it right I'm having troubles with my technique. Learn to go w2w the right way... 8-10 feet outside the wake and a smooth progressive edge this will help you to develop good habbits instead of bad ones.

You know the tension you feel when you dig your heels in and squeeze the line? That is the water and board reacting against each other(buyoncy). That reaction is what creates the power you use to pop off the wake. If you hold a ball under water and let go, it pops up. Same as a wakeboard. Jumping has nothing to do with going w2w on a wakeboard, its more technical than that. You HAVE to keep a tight line and remain on edge or you wont get true pop.
