there arnt any "GREAT" boards out there..its what you liek and feel comfortable on. Same goes for the "are good and last for a while"...it rele depends how hard you rip that makes them last long or short I would say to just go and get a board at a local skate shop, ask them questions they be sure to help ya with the perfect board of your choice
If there are any good skate shops in your area thats probably the first place to look. im assuming youre looking for a complete set-up not just a deck so there will be a lot you need to know.
ill start of with the deck: IMO there are two main choices : buying a blank(these usually cost around half the price of a pro deck and are usually of the smae quality.) you can find blanks at your local skatehop or at www.blankdecks.com( this is where i buy most of my stuff. Great prices.) if you have extra cash to spend and want cool graphics id suggest an Alien workshop board(or any otherboard thats a part of sovereign sect : Habitat and seek) these boards are one of the few good completely american companies out there.
trucks wont matter too much to a beginer you shouldnt be thrashing your trucks and worrying about kingpin strength and height although you may want new bushings depending on how your trucks are when you get them.
hardware: doesnt matter
Bearings: buy cheap and keep them clean. buy some lube and a solvent and clean them about once a month.
griptape: shouldnt really matter. i reccomend jessup its cheap and reliable.
wheels: smaller and harder for more street stuff bigger and softer if you want to go really fast(downhill or park/vert) wheel hardness will look like this 99A or 97A the higher the number the harder.
