hey guys,
i am looking for a low priced wakeboard boat, and have come across the Yamaha AR-230. Does anyone know anything about this boat? How is the wake? From what I know on their website the boat looks spectacular for 30 grand. any comments? thank you so much.

| You'd be better off buying a used sanger, or even a used Moomba. Yamaha...well, its Yamaha.

I don't think I have heard yamaha and wakeboarding in the same sentance before. $30K budget and you are considering a jet-ski?

| I like Yamahas, boats, bikes and etc. I think the AR230 is a nice boat, I thought about buying one and ended up going even cheaper with a Glastron SX195. Im happy for what I spent!

| Skicross, I would agree with everyone else so far. I would buy a used Sanger Moomba, or a older Malibu, CC, or MC for that amount of money. JMO

| I understand what you guys are saying, I have a Malibu Wakesetter up at my lake house in georgia... but this boat is for Sarasota, FL, for use in a bay and at this island where i ride... so a Malibu isn't going to be very seaworthy in salt water where it sometimes become very choppy. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the wake was like on the Yamaha, since it would be a nice boat to have in a salt water environment.

Fat sacs didn't help my buddies seadoo wakeboat. The weight didn't matter cuz the thing is so damn bouyant. But it still throws a nice enough wake for a beginer or intermediate rider. Very nice inside too.

Skicross,
I also posted requesting info on Yamaha AR230 for a family member of mine. I haven't heard many good things said about it for wakeboarding. You may want to check out a Centurion Avalanche, they are pretty big and handle chop real well. A buddy of mine has one and it is big compared to my SSV and the X-2. Might be your answer. LOL....jg

the only think I know about them, is that I've towed one in once that would have sunk if it wouldn't have been sitting up against a beach on the lake. Don't know what happened but they ended up with one or two holes in the hull and started taking on water pretty fast.
I agree with most of the other posts.....go with a true wakeboarding boat, if that's what you are going to be doing most of the time.
From the pictures on their website, it doesn't look like it throws much of a wake. There's one pic of a guy doing a nose or tail grab but it looks like he did it off an ollie...not the wake.

30K
I didn't think Yamaha had the nuts to ask that much for one of their boats. In that price range you could get hell of an I/O that would handle any chop, you could get a smokin' used inboard, or a new Moomba Outback. I wish I had a 30k budget when I got my boat.

Get a closed water cooling system and a flush kit.. 2k investment.
Over a 30k investment that won't do what you want it to.
Just my 2 cents

first off the wake is wide, no matter how much weight u put in ti the wake doesnt change cause its floats so much, the wake is small, washy, and retarted. I would suggest getting am moomba or a used inboard, the inboard is much superior to the 2 jet engine(Super super loud)
Dont let the yamaha ads lure you into getting a yamaha wakeboard
