|
|
The reason I ask is there is alot of lakes where I live that the water is pristine due to the fact that they have 10 HP limits on boats. There is even one that is almost 3 mile in diameter with a 10HP limit, go figure???
Anyway would it be possible to skate behind a small johnboat with a 10HP motor??? maybe do some ollies and kick flips. I have never been in a boat w/ a motor that small, so I'm not sure. What do you guys think? |

I've never done it, but I've heard of it being done before. I've also seen people kneeboard behind a 9.9 HP. I bet it's possible.
You could do sliders too, if it works, not just ollies and kickflips. |

I just thought of something: what if you get a small 2 stroke 20 hp or whatever and put it in a large 4 stroke 10 hp case? I bet you could get away with it.
Also, I learned to wakeboard behind a 35 hp, and it had no trouble pulling me even though it was 30 years old and there were two adults in the boat. |

| I thought of changing the motor case or something but I bet If there is a limit like that on the lake they know what to look for and I'm sure the fine is pretty stiff. Anyways I think skating behind a 12 foot boat on a lake that never sees that kind of stuff, would draw plenty of unwanted attention. |

I have seen people get 15hp's and then buy 9.9hp decals to put on the engine cover. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

| I don't know how much you weight but I weigh 185 and I couldn't skate behind any less than a 30hp motor.... maybe if you weigh a lot less you could go behind a 10 but I don't know... That's pretty slow. |

will they really care if you chanegd what was inside the engine cover.. so it looks like its 10 but is actually a 20... if caught just claim ignorance "sorry officer.. i bought it like this.. wow.. i can't believe someone would do this too me,how awful" .. then buy a new motor and do the same
i'm not sure about the swopping a 2 stroke for 4 stroke.. i think it would be a bit to obvious on engine noise...
But i see no reason why you couldn't get an older 20hp and stick 10hp decals on in... or get a 10hp and see if it can be bored out some.. or tuned up in some way (is this even possible on a 10hp?!!!) _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

| Are you just trying to piss the people on the lake off??? You do realize that within a week of you doing this there is going to be a new rule that you cant wakeboard behind 10hp boats on these particular lakes. |

I agree with Hockeyplayer,
Granted I think it sucks...but the whole reason one would incorporate such rules is to not have pleasure craft out. If those geezers saw some kids out having fun would boil their blood and I'm sure they'd have a new rule in no time.
"Welcome to _____ Lake, if you're planning on having fun today you must do so with an engineless boat. Have a great day!"
But here's a solution to really stick it to the man. Wakeboard behind a sailboat. How can they stop you? There's no engine. Brilliant. _________________ Back to back NBA champs. |

I've been wanting to do that for so long. I've just never gotten the chance. The wind would have to be the right direction, though, because you'd be Bubb Rubb when the boat tacks. |

The whole reason behind this idea is not to piss people off, although it probably will. There are two "Unlimited" lakes by me, at the peak of the season they shut the ramp down at one because it gets too crowded, and the other the water turns to crap by 11:00AM becouase of the tbers and the people that just run back and forth all day at full throttle. So you could say this is in the quest for new water. Anyway so what if they make another law, How cool would it be to be able to say you were the one responsible for that law by skating behind a 10HP. Nobody is doing it now so it really doesn't make a difference if they make it illegal. |

| I never said you shouldn't do it I simply said that it seemes pretty futile seeing as how it'll probably create more problems than its worth. Why dont you take a real boat out to one of the other two lakes and get there early so you can get some good water. You'll probably have more fun doing that than skating behind a dingy all day long....(Just my opinion there is no need to come back yelling at me because of my suggestion it was simply an alternative to wasting your time skating behind a dingy for a week.) |

Sailboats can gybe as well as tack so if you stayed well outside the wake on the outside of the turn you could probably stay up - especially if it was behind a cat - one of the few sailboats that could generate enough speed in the first place.
Mind you, if it was windy enough for a cat to sail at that speed, the water would be pretty choppy. However, would make a good afternoon's entertainment trying it out! _________________ Jeff |

For many 2 stroke engines (Mercury, Johnson) a 15HP is virtually the same engine as a 9.9HP except the 15HP has larger intake and exhaust ports and a larger carb. So putting a 9.9HP sticker on a 15 would be a pretty safe bet.
A 9.9HP on a 14' jon boat will go about 15-18MPH with one passenger not pulling anything - probably 2-5MPH slower pulling a wakeboarder. Of course if you get a smaller boat, say a 12' boat, you could go a little faster and of course could get more speed on a 15HP. I was able to pull my kids up to 80lbs behind a jon boat with a 9.9HP but doubt I could I had enough hole shot to get someone over 100lbs up. |

Then question authority, don't be a little weasle and try to sneak a bigger engine than is allowed. That's not questioning, that's being a coward and a sneak. Rules exist for a reason. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you should lie and break them. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

| I have seen people being pulled behind a 14 ft john boat with an 8hp motor. It did not pull them very fast, but they were up. The hardest part is getting the boat up on plain. One the boat plains out it will be OK. One of the people that was pulled weighed about 150 lbs, but was on doubles instead of a wake skate. I'm sure it would help if you had a big wake skate. The bigger the wake skate the easier it will be to get up and going. |

try to find a Skiff with 8 rowers and you'll be OK
I think it should be great boarding behind a sailboat... _________________ * riding finless teaches you to get your edge down properly, when you do it with fins, you'll be able to cut like OJ Simpson
