Does anyone know of a free air 12" sub that is good to mount under the dash on the wall at the drivers feet ? of course without having to make an enclosure to go around the sub. _________________ Fish naked, show off your pole. |

"of course without having to make an enclosure to go around the sub." Then it wouldn't be a free-air sub, would it?
You won't like the way it sounds. Free-air subs suck in boats. |

| YES! STEP AWAY FROM THE FREE AIR SUB!!!! Kicker makes one that is poor at best. Nowadays you only need a box that is less than one cubic foot to hold a woofer. Alot of subs only need .75 Square ft in a small SEALED enclosure. Look into an MTX or if you wanna be fancy look at the infinity line. Just make sure you are running enough power. |

| I have a clarion sub in my boat. First mounted it "free air", I thought it sounded alright. Messed around with builing a enclosure and it is a world of difference. Much better now |

Headrush,
I haven't surveyed the various subwoofers on this but in general, subwoofers with an EBP (efficiency bandwidth product) of between 50 and 90 are decent to use in a panel mounted application as you are describing (below 50 use a sealed enclosure, above 90, use a ported enclosure). Calculate EBP as follows:
EBP=Fs (Free Air Resonance) divided by Qes (electrical Q).
Fs and Qes is typically provided on the data sheet by the manufacturer.
Luck,
Chief |

go into ebay and check out the pioneer 12in 1200 watt sub. It only takes 1cu ft of are space and has a sick hit. _________________ "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy stuff, what a ride!" |
