Hello,

I have been a slalom skier for many years. I tried a friends wakeboard about 10 years ago and popped up onto the water on the first try. It was so easy to get up.

Flash forward to present day. My kids cannot seem to be able to ski so I decided to have them try a wakeboard. My neighbor gave me his old Obrien wakeboard. My kids were not able to get up on it either. So I gave it a try and was not able to get up at all. I was blown away. I have always been able to get up on anything, but not the wakeboard. The thing was way to bouyant. I could not control it in the water while waiting to start.

Is there something wrong with this board? Why should it float so much that one is unable to put a back fin in the water?

Thanks

the board should be boyant as your getting up... you want it on the water rather than in to get up... i might be talking rubbish but as you come up then put weight on the board... if you try and start with the board submerged there is no chance of getting up... i don't think... the toe edge wouldn't come out up of the water. If i have completely mis understood your post then i do apologise... just seems weird though... a boyant board should be really easy to get up on... but if you say you can't get the fin in the water then that is crazy... that just means you can't get an edge in to get up, that doesn't sound right at all... the only thing i can suggest is that you put pressure on your toes before you get up to get some sort of control on that board... other than that perhaps it is time to get some more modern equipment, no offence to your neighbour obvioulsy... Hope this helped...

Yes, I think you are correct that more modern equipment is in order. This board is screwy. I understand that the board is more bouyant as you are getting up. What I meant is that it floats on top of the water before the boat even pulls you. laying there in the water with the board on both feet out in front of me, my heels are barely in the water! I tried to swing a tip into the water but could not because it floated too much. I could not get into prelaunch position.

well then it is definetely the board!! Laughing that just isn't right... i don't know how anyone could get up on that, it simply doesn't make sense. I would return the board to the trash can rather than your neighbour!!! Haha... im sure once you get a new board you and your family will be up and riding in no time!!

Good luck with everything!!

That shouldn't b happening. Ur heelside should be in the water. And the Toeside of ur board should b out of the water. I think it would b imposible if the board is lying flat ontop of the water!!! I say trash the board!! or u can try to fix it [i have no idea how to fix it]. But i think it will b a waste of time trying to see if u can get up on it..

It's possible to get up on a board like that, it just may take some more experience. The older style 'original' wakeboards and even the new surfboards are very buoyant and it takes an experienced rider to get up on one of them.
I got up a few times on an old single tiip board that was very buoyant. The feel of the board was horrible and it made it a lot more difficult to get up, so getting a newer board will help you tremedously.
