Whats different about wakeskate shoes then any other shoes, could i just cut out lots of the inside of an old pair of shoes and drill holes in the bottom?

You can do that, or you can check out the other wakeskate shoe threads and see what other people are doing.

Not much other than mesh sides, sometimes vented soles to let water drain. Also they usually have less stuffing, so they dont get as heavy.

Don't bother. Unless you are doing kickflips and other off the board manuveurs in which you need your feet to be light at all times, they are a waste, and they still mildew. I have a pair of Byerly's and Dresdon's, and now I'm back to my Adidas Superstars. At least they are comfortable.
