Hello all...

I currently have a Caravelle 176BR with a Monster Tower, and was really looking at getting a Moomba LSV next spring. However, just found out my wife is pregnant with our first, so I guess the new boat is out of the question (I don't mind one bit though!!!! Very Happy ). Anyway, I was researching the Moomba (and a few others) and one thing still puzzles me. These are boats basically designed for one thing - wakeboarding. They don't seem to make good 'cruising' boats, since most people on here post that their boats just don't ride well in rough water. Why is extra ballast optional?? Why would a company charge $40k-$80k for a wakeboard boat, yet you still have to decide if you want the 'standard' wake, or the biggest, best wake that you can get??? And from a buyers point-of-view, what would be the point of spending all of that $$ and only getting the standard ballast. To me, it's like Chevy selling a 4 cylinder Corvette, and the V8 is an option. It just doesn't make sense.

Thanks!!!

Congratulations that was the most idiotic thing I've ever heard!

Jeff,
I think it comes down to liability and coast guard approval the boat has to pass certain tests to be coast guard rated and approved but these tests may be impossible to pass with the extra weight added.

Also, with Moomba, they offer their boats stock with minimal options. Some people don't want extra ballast. Its all part of keeping their price down. Now Supras some standard with 3 bag ballast (v-drives).

What about the posers who insist on having the biggest baddest wake out there and don't know what to do with it? I know I get about the same air on a boat with standard ballast as I do in a boat with standard ballast plus a couple thousand pounds. I'm not a pro and judging by the number of wakeboats I see, neither are 99.9% of wakeboat owners.

I think that unless you are a top-level athlete, getting pro-sized air off a huge wake, any weight over what you need to get a nice shape is usually just a waste of gas. IMO, shape is key.

It gives you the option of buying a wakeboard boat without the extras (tower, ballast, amp, shower, heater, etc) so you can get out there and start having fun now. Then maybe next year you can save up enough for the tower or ballast, etc. There are pros and cons - it's just one way of getting started.
